Former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has warned his Atletico Madrid team-mates about the atmosphere that awaits them at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Liverpool lost the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against Atletico 1-0 after Saul Niguez’s early effort was enough for Diego Simeone’s side.

Spanish publication AS (via Sport Witness) says that it will be a ‘special’ night for Trippier as he returns to England to face Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

BIG MIDWEEK: Arteta derby, Liverpool, Ighalo, Mourinho, PSG

The report adds that Trippier will be looking for ‘small revenge’ over Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Spurs 2-0 in last season’s Champions League final.

After being out injured, Trippier has appeared in Atletico’s recent matches against Villarreal, Espanyol and Sevilla as he looks for a starting berth on his return to England.

“Anfield is one of the best stadiums to play in. The fans are amazing, I have talked with my teammates about the atmosphere there,” Trippier said.

“They will try to be as intimidating as possible, but we have to go with a mentality to qualify. It will be complicated, but we are ready for the challenge. Our fans are very important, we hope to get the result we want.”
