Spurs target Cuadrado

According to reports, Spurs have sought to ‘obtain information’ on former Chelsea player Juan Cuadrado ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea paid around £23m to sign the Columbia international in 2014 from Fiorentina.

Cuadrado only played 15 times for them during his debut season. He joined Juventus on loan in 2015 and this move was made permanent in 2017.

The 33-year-old has played over 250 times for Juventus over the past few seasons. He continues to be an ever-present for the Italian giants as he has played 38 times this season.

His future is in doubt at the moment as his contract is due to expire in June. Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed via Twitter that Spurs have contacted Cuadrado’s agent to ‘obtain information’ on his situation.

It is stated that the player’s ‘priority’ is to stay with Juventus. But if a new contract cannot be agreed, Tottenham director Fabio Paratici ‘would be glad to welcome him’.

Spurs defender Eric Dier is pleased with his form but he is eager to improve more under Antonio Conte:

“I feel for me this is consistently my best season I have had so far at Tottenham overall,” Dier said.

“I don’t think I’ve ever shown the consistency in the performances that I have shown this season and I feel like my football is the best it has been in my opinion.

“It is always very nice when a manager, especially one like him, says those things. It gives me a lot of confidence, but the thing I pay most attention to from his words is that I have a lot of space for improvement and I think that is really the thing he says that I focus on the most.

“I want to fill that space, fill that potential, as much as possible, as much as he thinks possible.”

Dier feels there has been a clear progression in Tottenham’s performances:

“I can’t hide that the run has been weighing on my mind, it has been weighing on all of our minds, and to end that now before the international break is really important for us,” he said.

“I think despite the results you can see that we have really improved a lot in the last couple of months, even if you look at the Man Utd game and the Burnley game, they weren’t the results we wanted but I think they were different performances to what you have seen before.

“And you can see today that our progression is really clear for everyone to see.”
