Spurs to sacrifice striker signing to land former £50m Paratici target

Spurs will only sign Wolves winger Adama Traore or a striker this summer with the former looking more likely, according to reports.

Traore has been heavily linked with Liverpool over the past couple of seasons with Jurgen Klopp praising him on a couple of occasions.

However, it is Tottenham who have reportedly shown the most interest this summer with the Reds seemingly done with their business.

Kane desperation continues as Jesus told to make £160m demand

The Spain international didn’t have the best season for Wolves last campaign, only managing to contribute two goals and two assists all season in the Premier League.

If Wolves are to sell Traore this summer they will be looking to make a decent profit on the £20m they paid Middlesbrough for his services in 2018.

However, their position has been weakened by the fact the 25-year-old only has two years remaining on his current deal at Molineux with no sign of progress over a new contract.

A report five days ago claimed Wolves are ‘braced for an approach from Tottenham for’ Traore before the end of the transfer window but they said that it was dependent on Harry Kane’s future.

But Alasdair Gold from Football.London now claims that Tottenham ‘are expected to try to bring Traore to the club in the final eight days of the transfer window because, without putting too fine a point on it, Espirito Santo loves him’.

Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici is a ‘big fan of the player’ after trying to buy him for £50m during his time as Juventus CEO.

There is a plan at the club that would allow Son Heung-min a greater role further up the pitch by replacing him with Traore out wide.

That would mean Son could play alongside Kane as a support striker in a two up front with Gold insisting that it’s ‘currently a case of signing Traore or a striker’ this summer.

Spurs have so far failed to make any inroads in their efforts to lure rumoured top targets Dusan Vlahovic or Lautaro Martinez to north London, while speculation linking the club with Cristiano Ronaldo seem far-fetched.
