Spurs target Mikkel Damsgaard won’t leave Sampdoria for less than £34million this summer, according to reports.

The Denmark star originally caught the attention of Premier League scouts in February, with West Ham also said to be interested.

His brilliant displays for Kasper Hjulmand’s side at Euro 2020 have increased his transfer value hugely.

The attacking midfielder started the tournament on the bench but came into the team following the collapse of Christian Eriksen.

He got off the mark with a brilliant dipping strike against Russia in the group stage. That started the show as Denmark won 4-1 to secure their place in the last 16.

After the game, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero said: “I’ll tell you it’s a fair price, today at least €30m (£27million). But if he scores again he will reach €40m (£34million).”

Damsgaard did just that, scoring a stunning free-kick against England in the semi-final. His powerful dipping effort silenced the home crowd in the first half, although they went on to win thanks to Harry Kane’s penalty follow-up.

The player had also registered an assist against Wales in the previous round. He achieved three goal contributions in five games for his country throughout the Euros.

The 21-year-old’s performances come as no surprise to Sampdoria fans. He was one of their star players last season, helping them to finish ninth in Serie A on 52 points.

Damsgaard was originally taken to Italy for a fee of just over £6m, and Sampdoria could now cash in.

He’s reportedly wanted by new Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo. He could operate just behind Harry Kane in the first team, should they manage to keep hold of their star striker.

Damsgaard could form part of an exciting trio with Kane and Heung-Min Son. He would provide an extra bit of creativity in their side, effectively linking midfield with attack.

West Ham may also submit a bid for Damsgaard in the coming weeks. Jesse Lingard has now rejoined Manchester United and left a hole in David Moyes’ starting eleven.

They have the necessary funds to match Sampdoria’s asking price.
