Spurs are keen on bringing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha to the Premier League club this summer, according to reports.

The Portugal international has spent his whole career at Sporting but loan spells at Moreirense, Belenenses and Braga have aided his development.

At the age of 26, Palhinha finally had his first consistent season in the Sporting first team, making 32 appearances in the Portuguese top flight.

Those performances earned him his first six caps for Portugal with Palhinha playing two matches for Fernando Santos’ side at Euro 2020.

And now Football Insider claim that Tottenham ‘have registered their interest in signing’ the Sporting Lisbon midfielder as they ‘look to strengthen in the final weeks of the summer window’.

It is understood that Spurs ‘have been in contact over a potential deal for Palhinha, who is hugely admired by Nuno Espirito Santo’.

Spurs could be in the right place if they are looking to sign a midfielder at a cheaper price with Football Insider insisting Palhinha ‘could be prised from Sporting for as little as £14m’.

Wolves have been heavily linked with the Portugal international but their need to sell before they can buy has ‘opened the door for Spurs to swoop’.

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Nuno has said that wantaway striker Harry Kane could feature in their opening match against Manchester City on Sunday.

Nuno told Sky Sports News: “All the players that are in the squad are available. Then it is up to us to decide, we can see the best options.”

When pushed if that included Kane, he said: “All the players that are in the squad that work on a daily basis will be options for us.”

Kane is the subject of interest from Man City but there are rumours that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for as much as £160m.

He said: “First of all we have to speak about what is going to happen and after that we will hope to solve all the situations.

“We have to solve it together, everybody involved has to solve it together, speaking, having a nice conversation and putting our opinions. Everybody together.”
