Raheem Sterling says Liverpool are “just another team on the way to get past” in the Capital One Cup.

Man City attacker Sterling ran the ball out of play before crossing for Kevin De Bruyne to put City 2-1 ahead against Everton in the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg victory at The Etihad on Wednesday.

Referee Martin Atkinson and his assistants somehow allowed the goal to stand, much to the disgust of Everton and their fans, but Sterling was unconcerned and said it was about time City got some luck as they prepare to face Liverpool at Wembley on February 28.

“We got the luck of the break, and we haven’t had that in the last few games. I am just happy to get the good luck on this time, as the last few times we haven’t, and it has taken us to Wembley, and that is the most important thing,” said Sterling, who moved from Liverpool to City last summer for a fee which could total £49million.

Sterling, 21, is expected to get a rough ride from Liverpool fans at Wembley over the handing of his move to Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but the England man is far from worried.

“That is not a big thing on my mind. Obviously it is my ex team, but it is just another team on the way to get past.

“It (the final) is in my home city and it is something I have wanted to do since I was a kid. Nothing is going to stop me from doing it,” added Sterling.
