Suarez: Liverpool 2005 win my favourite CL moment

Luis Suarez has recalled his fondest memory of the Champions League – the “incredible dream” of Liverpool winning the tournament in 2005.

Former Liverpool striker Suarez is starring in this season’s Champions League for Barcelona, with the Uruguayan scoring in both of the Catalan club’s opening games this campaign.

Suarez also netted in the final of last season’s competition as Barca overcame Juventus to win 3-1 in Berlin.

But Suarez, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014, says the Reds’ memorable penalty shootout victory against AC Milan in the 2005 final is perhaps his favourite moment in Europe’s elite club competition.

“It was an incredible dream,” Suarez told UEFA.com. “I remember that final, Liverpool against Milan, with Milan leading 3-0 and then Liverpool coming back to win on penalties. That is what I remember most.

“Also matches in the Champions League with the biggest team in Europe. When Inter played, when Juventus were strong and had Paolo Montero in their team.

“I remember those Champions League matches; they were incredible.”
