Sutton slams ‘bang average’ Man Utd for ‘living in the past’

Chris Sutton has slammed Manchester United, claiming they are “treading water” under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, and were dominated for large parts of the game.

Virgil van Dijk gave the Reds an early lead as he went unchallenged to power in a header from a corner.

Anthony Martial spurned a great chance to equalise, before Mo Salah wrapped up the win for Liverpool.

And Chris Sutton insists the gap between the sides will only get bigger under the current circumstances.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “The difference between the two sides is that Liverpool are living in the present. They are living in this moment.

“They are a team who are improving all the time and the club is improving all the time – on and off the field.

“United have hit the wall, they are treading water under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, that’s just the way it is.

“They are living in the past. They are are bang average team and will not be able to touch Liverpool in the next couple of seasons.”
