Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly enquired about the Manchester United squad ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford this summer.

Ten Hag has been rumoured to be one of two top candidates to take over at United in recent weeks, along with Mauricio Pochettino.

And The Times claim the 52-year-old ‘has already been asking the players about the squad via third parties’.

The report continues: ‘The Ajax head coach wants to learn as much information as possible about the squad and the club’s hierarchy because he knows that he is a strong candidate’.

Meanwhile, Pochettino is thought to be on the brink at Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Spurs boss has one year left on his current deal but is set to be sacked following his side’s collapse in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Pochettino has been linked with the United job for some time and is thought to have been keen to leave PSG in the summer.

And reports on Friday suggest he remains keen on a return to the Premier League to take the helm at Old Trafford, but wants assurances he is the No.1 choice for the role.

But uncertainty at Chelsea has United eyeing another, seemingly more alluring option.

As things stands, Chelsea are not allowed to sell tickets or merchandise, have limits on the money they can spend on travel and matchdays, and are unable to negotiate new contracts, following the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich.

And Football Insider claims United will try their luck amid the uncertainty and attempt to persuade Thomas Tuchel to leave Chelsea.

A source said the Red Devils are set to “go all out” for the German manager in the summer and claims the United hierarchy view him as “by far the best candidate” due to his ‘pedigree, Premier League experience and proven ability at winning the biggest trophies’.

Ten Hag and Pochettino may well have dropped down the shortlist.
