Ten Hag to make big decision

According to Fabrizio Romano, Erik ten Hag has a ‘decision’ to make regarding the futures of two Man Utd players who could leave in the summer.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a successful season under Ten Hag. He ended their trophy drought earlier this campaign as they lifted the Carabao Cup and they have also reached the FA Cup final.

Man Utd earned a vital 1-0 win over Aston Villa over the weekend to boost their hopes of finishing in the top four. They are now seven points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game in hand.

United’s focus will soon switch to the summer and Ten Hag has work to do to ensure his team can put in a sustained challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Romano has confirmed that United have told Eric Bailly and Alex Telles that they will be free to leave in the summer.

“United have also made some decisions on outgoings – Eric Bailly will come back from his loan at Marseille but will be on the market, the same for Alex Telles after his loan with Sevilla,” Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

“So, these players know their futures, but it’s still not time to decide yet on the budget for new signings.”

He added: “Harry Kane is now one of the top names on their list, as well as Victor Osimhen, but there are no negotiations. The Kane deal depends on Tottenham, and they also need to wait for Napoli to set a price for Osimhen. The situation is open, but a new striker is a priority for United and Ten Hag.

Romano also points out that Man Utd need to “make a decision” on Marcel Sabitzer and Harry Maguire. Ten Hag is set to “have a conversation” with the defender and it is claimed that Victor Lindelof has “chances to stay”.

“For sure, United also have to make a decision on Marcel Sabitzer, because they could also do something in midfield. They have discussed targets like Manu Kone and Alexis Mac Allister, but they can’t attack the situation just yet because it depends on how much of their budget they’ll have left for a midfielder after signing a striker,” Romano continued.

“If the owners will fund both these moves it will be a crucial step. Keep an eye on centre-back as well – at the end of the season Ten Hag will have a conversation with Harry Maguire, while Victor Lindelof also wants to play more, but he has chances to stay.

“One player United admire in defence is Kim Min-jae of Napoli – he has a release clause of a bit less than €50m, which becomes active in July, but Napoli are keen to extend his contract.”
