Erik ten Hag is happy to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

The Ajax manager is reportedly set to be announced as the new boss at Old Trafford in the coming weeks.

Ten Hag can fix Manchester United – but only if they let him

He will join the Premier League club in the summer after Ralf Rangnick’s stint as interim manager comes to an end.

The German replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year with the Red Devils on a horrid run of form, winning three in 11 across all competitions.

Ten Hag will have a busy summer as he looks to rebuild the United squad and Ronaldo’s future has been a huge talking point in recent months.

According to the Daily Star, the Dutchman has already decided that he does not want the Portugal captain to be a part of his rebuild at Old Trafford.

He has given Ronaldo the ‘green light’ to leave in the summer. His contract lasts until 2023, with the option for a further year.

United fans were ecstatic when the 37-year-old snubbed their arch-rivals, Manchester City, in favour of a return to Old Trafford last summer.

It has been a difficult campaign for the player, who has scored 18 goals in 34 matches. Although these are respectable numbers, they are a far cry from his usual high standards.

The Red Devils are facing their fifth consecutive trophyless season after they recently crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage.

Elsewhere, ex-Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has tipped Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire to take the “opportunity to leave” when Ten Hag comes in.

Kleberson told Paddy Power: “Erik ten Hag would represent a change in style as his teams like to have the ball and have more possession and that could help the quality players at United like Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford – they like to have the ball at their feet.”

He added: “I can see a lot of players at Manchester United leaving if they appoint a new manager who is building for the long term. It gives Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo the opportunity to leave the club as a lot of things can change with a new manager.”
