A German journalist has called claims that RB Leipzig could hijack a Man Utd move for Erik ten Hag as “nonsense”.

The Ajax boss has emerged as the outright favourite to become the new permanent manager at Old Trafford in the summer with widespread reports indicating the Dutchman is about to beat Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui into the Red Devils hotseat.

However, there have been rumours that Man Utd must satisfy Ten Hag’s long list of demands before he accepts the role and yesterday there was speculation that another club could ‘hijack’ the move.

‘Laughable’ Liverpool exposed; Man Utd must shift quartet out

The Daily Mirror insisted that German club RB Leipzig have offered the Dutchman a ‘bank-busting’ contract to take him to the Bundesliga in an attempt to ‘hijack’ his move to Man Utd.

Man Utd are desperate to get a plan in place ahead of next season with interim boss Ralf Rangnick moving into a consultancy role at the end of the season.

And now chief reporter for Sport1 Patrick Berger claims that the rumours linking Ten Hag with Leipzig are ‘absolutely nonsense’ and that the German outfit ‘are totally satisfied with Domenico Tedesco’.

He also confirmed that ‘Ten Hag is still the top candidate to take over’ at Man Utd after the reports had thrown a little bit of doubt on the deal.

Meanwhile, Rangnick claims that it depends on the new Man Utd manager over the extent of his advisory role next campaign.

Asked whether he will be giving insight to he next boss, Rangnick said: “I have already done this, not to any managers, but inside the club.

“I have told them how I see the current squad and what needs to happen in my opinion. The rest I cannot answer now because it depends on the new manager. If he is interested and willing to speak about that and interested in my opinion, I will need to wait and see what happens.”

And asked what would be the most important advice he could offer a new manager, Rangnick added:”If the new manager has been announced, then if he wants to get my advice then I am more than happy to speak to the new manager about that.

“But right now it will be something in private and internally, that we need to discuss.”
