Manchester United are interested in signing a new right-back this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his defence, according to a report.

Diogo Dalot has impressed for the Red Devils for over a year now after looking like his time at the club was coming to an end.

The Portuguese international really began to show some promise under Ralf Rangnick and has carried his form into this campaign.

However, the resurgence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a surprise boost for Ten Hag and has resulted in Dalot’s minutes being reduced.

Despite their form this season, it is believed that United are looking to sign a new right-back.

Josip Juranovic was linked with a move to Old Trafford after his superb World Cup with Croatia, but ended up joining Union Berlin from Celtic in the winter transfer window.

One defender to be frequently linked with the Premier League club is Bayer Levekusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, another former Celtic player.

Frimpong was in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad but failed to play a single minute in Qatar.

He has been very impressive for Leverkusen since making the switch from Parkhead for around £9million in 2021.

Under contract until 2025, there is plenty of interest in the 22-year-old, who has made 21 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring five and providing three assists.

According to Football Insider, United are ‘plotting’ the summer signing of Frimpong.

This season, the Red Devils’ scouting team have been ‘closely’ taking a look at the young defender, who has earned ‘rave reviews’.

Leverkusen value Frimpong anywhere between £40m and £50m, though United ‘believe’ they can get a deal done for £30-35m.

Frimpong is ‘happy in Germany’ but is unlikely to turn down the opportunity to join such a prestigious club, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.

Ten Hag has ‘assessed’ his squad and has decided he wants to bring in a new right-back.

Frimpong actually came through the Manchester City youth academy before joining Celtic in 2019.

The same outlet claim that Wan-Bissaka is seriously considering his Old Trafford future.

As well as Frimpong, United are reportedly interested in signing Real Vallodolid teenager Ivan Fresneda.

Wan-Bissaka is aware Ten Hag is looking to sign a new player in his position and it is believed that his former side Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing him.

Other clubs believed to be interested are West Ham and Wolves.

Ten Hag’s side will look to win their first trophy since 2017 when they take on Newcastle United in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
