Ten Hag says Luke Shaw set to miss Everton game after the full-back suffered an injury midweek

Erik Ten Hag has said Luke Shaw will not be available for Manchester United’s game against Everton on Saturday.

The England international left-back was forced off injured in the 37th minute during United’s midweek victory over Brentford.

The injury means Shaw, who made his 250th appearance for the club on Wednesday, will not be in United’s squad for Saturday’s game.

Ten Hag said: “Luke Shaw is not available for tomorrow. We have to see about the progress for the coming week.”

The Manchester United boss did give some positive news, however, with midfielder Christian Eriksen returning to the squad after almost three months out of action.

“The good news is Eriksen is back in training and he will be in the squad,” Ten Hag said.

“At first, it was a really bad tackle and a bad injury. He’s ahead of schedule, so we’re happy with that.”

United returned to winning ways against Brentford after a miserable 2-0 defeat to Newcastle last Sunday, a game in which the Red Devils were soundly beaten.

The attitude of some of the Manchester United players was questioned during the Newcastle defeat, but victory against Brentford saw an increased desire.

Ten Hag claimed the same hunger needs to be applied to the remaining games of the season, as his side seek a Champions League spot.

“You have to do it every game,” the Dutch coach said.

He added: “The has to be the standard, you have to do it and that’s the responsibility you have to deliver when playing for Manchester United. You have to be accountable.

“It’s about demands. We have to make standards, always, it’s about culture, you have to do it always.

“When you are not in top, they can do it once, but for a player who is at the top, competing for trophies, the Premier League, you have to do it always and be consistent.

“It’s our job to bring that mentality.”

United will face a tough challenge against a revitalised Everton, the Toffees have drawn three and won once in their past four games, including a 2-2 draw away at Chelsea and a 1-1 result at home to Spurs.

Dyche’s team are currently 16th, out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Ten Hag praised the job Dyche is doing at Goodison Park, and said his side need to match Everton’s physicality when the two teams meet.

He said: “He [Dyche] is obviously a manager doing a great job. His team is really fit, their physical output is outstanding, so we have to match that.”
