Ten Hag ‘U-turn’ as £50m Man Utd star offered ‘lifeline’ as Red Devils ‘more open’ to selling teammate
Scott McTominay has been offered a “lifeline” by Manchester United after an Erik ten Hag U-turn means they’re “more open” to selling one of his teammates.
McTominay has been linked with an Old Trafford exit as the Red Devils look to stump up funds to improve their squad this summer.
Newcastle were linked towards the end of last season but their interest has cooled after they signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
Brighton are also said to be keen on the Scottish international, and it was rumoured he could be used as a makeweight in a Man Utd move for Moises Caicedo, though the Ecuadorian now looks destined to join Chelsea.
A Jose Mourinho at Roma has also been mooted, but the 26-year-old will likely be out of the Serie A side’s price range given Man Utd value him at £50m, according to The Sun.
Providing an update on McTominay’s future, transfer expert Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that the academy graduate now looks likely to stay put with midfield partner Fred the player they’re “more open” to selling.
He said: “There seems like there might have been a little bit of a U-turn on McTominay and he might have a lifeline at Man United now. And it’s Fred is the one that they’re more open to, but I don’t think they really need to lose both of those players. But we’ll have to see how that situation plays out for determining whether they go for anybody else.”
When asked about his future, McTominay confirmed his love for Man Utd, and vowed to continue working as hard as possible whether he’s playing games or not.
“I’m someone who loves football and I love this club,” McTominay told club media.
“Whatever happens and however many minutes you play, I’m still going to train hard every single day and give my best for the team and always be there.
“Contribute with some goals every now and again, maybe when you come on, but I feel like, for myself, it’s keep your head down and keep working.”
