Man Utd to keep Wan-Bissaka

Man Utd are now reportedly set to keep Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the club this month amid his recent resurgence under Erik ten Hag.

Wan-Bissaka has had a rollercoaster couple of months at Man Utd. He fell down the pecking order following Ten Hag’s arrival in the summer as the Dutchman has made it clear that he prefers Diogo Dalot this season.

The ex-Crystal Palace man was linked with a return to his former club in the summer but he was not given permission to leave as United were unable to sign a replacement.

It is a priority for Ten Hag to have two viable options at full-back. He has that at left-back with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia after the latter joined United in the summer from Feyenoord.

For much of this season, United have not had that at right-back with Wan-Bissaka limited to a couple of very brief cameo appearances.

But Wan-Bissaka has returned to the fold since the World Cup break as he has started United’s last three Premier League games.

He has always been a solid defender but his poor work going forward was exposed before Ten Hag took over at Old Trafford.

But on recent evidence, Wan-Bissaka has made some improvements and Ten Hag has insisted that the defender has a future at United.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka: it’s clear he has a future,” Ten Hag said. “He had some good years here at Man United, but from the start this season he had a lot of illnesses and injuries, so running behind.

“From the restart on he is fit and he could train with the team and you see him progressing, his fitness levels getting better, his performance levels getting better and I’m really happy today with his performance.

“He gave an assist – especially the way he gave the assist – about his movement in the right moment and timing, and of course a great pass by Bruno [Fernandes], but the assist is great. I’m happy with his performance. He did good.”

This has now been backed up by The Daily Mail. They are reporting that Wan-Bissaka is now ‘expected to stay at United this month’.

Ten Hag has warmed to the defender as he now feels that he is a ‘genuine alternative’ to Dalot.

Wan-Bissaka’s recent ‘resurgence’ has seen Man Utd ‘shelve their interest’ in Wolves defender Nelson Semedo.

The Red Devils were ‘showing interest’ in Semedo. He is out of contract in the summer but Wolves have the option to extend his deal until 2024.

Wolves ‘may be open to selling Semedo this month and this comes amid reports suggesting that Wolves, West Ham and Palace were in for Wan-Bissaka.

It is noted that Wan-Bissaka’s situation could alter again if he falls back down the pecking order when Dalot is back fit.
