The two positions Arsenal will ‘prioritise’ this summer
Arsenal have identified the two positions they will try to strengthen in the summer transfer window. Neither of them is ‘the manager’. Nor ‘the goalkeeper’.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal will ‘prioritise’ the addition of a central midfielder and a centre-half at the end of the season.
The ‘increasing uncertainty’ surrounding Jack Wilshere’s future could force Arsenal’s hand in midfield, with the England international yet to agree terms on a new contract.
Arsenal have made Wilshere an offer which falls below his demands, and the Gunners are reluctant to increase it due to his fitness concerns. His deal expires in the summer.
Chief scout Sven Mislintat has been charged with improving ‘the central spine of the squad,’ excluding the club’s depth in forward positions. And, seemingly, Petr bloody Cech.
Jeremy Wilson writes that ‘central midfield has become a major focus,’ with Wilshere’s contract expiring, Aaron Ramsey’s future also uncertain, and Santi Cazorla still nowhere near match fitness.
Max Meyer is namechecked as a potential target, while the Daily Mail linked Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu with a move to north London earlier this week.
