Timo Werner has fueled rumours of a possible summer move to Liverpool by addressing speculation after RB Leipzig’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Germany international – who reportedly has a £51m release clause in his contract – has scored 26 goals and contributed seven assists in all competitions this season, helping Leipzig to second place in the Bundesliga standings.
There have been doubts as to whether Werner would be prepared to move to Liverpool as an understudy to Roberto Firmino but after scoring the only goal in Leipzig’s win at Spurs, Werner continued to flirt with a move.
“I know Liverpool is the best team in the moment in the world,” Werner told Viasport.
“When you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud.
“But in case of that, it’s a pleasure but I know at Liverpool there are a lot of good players and I know I have to improve myself to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.
“That’s the problem of the Champions League. When you win the first game, it’s always [still] a lot of things to in the 90 minutes in Leipzig.
“Tottenham is a good team. They showed last year that mentally they can come back in these games. We have to do the same like today. We have a good start for the first half and we will go on.”
