‘Top player’ – Jenas heaps praise on Liverpool star who is ‘so underrated’

Ex-Premier League midfielder Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on Liverpool defender Joel Matip, as he is “so underrated”.
The centre-back made the move to Liverpool in 2016. He signed for them on a free transfer after his contract at Schalke expired.
Matip has struggled with injuries at times but, when available, he has been key for Liverpool. He has played over 150 times for them across all competitions.
16 Conclusions: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool
The 30-year-old is arguably enjoying his best season for Liverpool to date in 2021/22.
The Cameroon international was named as the Player of the Month in the Premier League for February.
Matip impressed as he helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Jenas does not think Jenas gets the credit that he deserves:
“I know Liverpool fans know that he’s a top player. but Joel Matip is so underrated,” Jenas said (via Liverpool Echo).
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher has explained the “massive difference” in this Liverpool team compared to previous Jurgen Klopp sides:
“I think everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club will believe they will go on and win the title,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“It is 50-50 if you like because of the situation with the game at the Etihad.
“But I feel this is the first time Liverpool can win the league at any time this season. I said City before a ball was kicked. I thought it was well gone after Liverpool drew 2-2 at Chelsea. There’s still a point in it. But I think the momentum Liverpool have, the game they have coming up next, they could go top of the league.
“You can see the reaction from the supporters and the players now. Man City are still in great form, they’re just dropping points a little bit.
“You can imagine what Anfield is going to be like. As I said, I think everyone in that away end believes Liverpool are going to win the league.
“I just feel the signing of (Luis) Diaz, not just him as an individual but what it has done to Liverpool. What Liverpool brought off the bench is better than the year they won the Champions League or the Premier League. That’s a massive difference that this team has never had.”
