Top ten biggest sellers in world football so far this summer…

After the biggest spenders – topped by Real Madrid – come the biggest sellers…

All numbers are from the glorious transfermarkt

10) Udinese (£38.55m)
Players sold: Alex Meret (£19.8m, Napoli), Jakub Jankto (£13.5m, Sampdoria), Orestis Karnezis (£2.25m, Napoli).

All those players left on loan last season and all have completed permanent moves away. They will just borrow players from Watford to plug any gaps.

9) Benfica (£38.7m)
Players sold: Raul Jimenez (£34.2m, Wolves), Luka Jovic (£4.5m, Eintracht Frankfurt).
That Luka Jovic fee has got to bloody hurt. But they can never have expected that sort of money for the enigmatic Jimenez after three underwhelming seasons in Portugal.

8) Santos FC (£41.31m)
Players sold: Rodrygo (£40.5m, Real Madrid), David Graz (Gremio, £810,000)

Seeing a Brazilian club on one of these lists is a novelty, but it’s not every day that you sell an uncapped Brazilian 18-year-old for Real Madrid for over £40m.

7) Atalanta (£51.75m)
Players sold: Franck Kessie (£21.6m, AC Milan), Bryan Cristante (AS Roma, £18.9m), Andrea Petagna (SPAL, £10.8m), Alberto Almici (Hellas Verona, £450,000).

It turns out there are a lot of loans with an obligation/option to buy that go on in Italy. None of those players actually played for Atalanta last season.

6) Hoffenheim (£52.2m)
Players sold: Kerem Demirbay (£28.8m, Bayer Leverkusen), Nico Schulz (£22.95m, Borussia Dortmund), Robin Hack (£450,000, Nuremburg).

And expect Andrej Kramaric to join the exodus as Hoffenheim’s stint in the Champions League comes to an end.

5) Eintracht Frankfurt (£54.63m)
Players sold: Luka Jovic (£54m, Real Madrid), Andersson Ordonez (£405,000, Quito), Danny Blum (£225,000, Bochum)

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make a profit on an unwanted Benfica player.

4) FC Porto (£65.25m)
Players sold: Eder Militao (£45m, Real Madrid), Felipe (£18m, Atletico Madrid), Jose Sa (£2.2m, Olympiakos).

Talking of profits, Porto bought Eder Militao from Sao Paulo for £6.3m just a year ago. Being a conduit from Brazil into Europe really is a lucrative business.

3) Ajax (£81.45m)
Players sold: Frenkie De Jong (£67.5m, Barcelona), Maximilian Wober (£9.45m, Sevilla), Daley Sinkgraven (£4.5m, Bayer Leverkusen).

And this is before Matthijs De Ligt joins Manchester United/PSG/Barcelona/Huddersfield Town.

2) Atletico Madrid (£81.99m)
Players sold: Lucas Hernandez (£72m, Bayern Munich), Luciano Vietto (Sporting, £6.75m), Bernard Mensah (£3.24m, Kayserispor)

And this is before Antoine Griezmann joins Manchester United/PSG/Barcelona/Huddersfield Town. What a summer they are having.

1) Chelsea (£99m)
Players sold: Eden Hazard (£90m, Real Madrid), Ola Aina (£9m, Torino)

Oh hello there Eden and Chelsea. When you cannot actually buy any players, this is not a list you want to top.
