Torino: Belotti may reject United even if they pay £85m

Torino president Urbano Cairo believes that Andrea Belotti could reject a move to Manchester United even if they met his release clause.

Belotti is one of a number of strikers currently being courted by the Old Trafford club ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

It has been reported that the club will try and sign both the Italian and Alvaro Morata, with Jose Mourinho keen to strengthen his squad for an assault on the Champions League and an improved performance in the Premier League.

Belotti has a release clause of €100m in his Torino contract that is applicable to foreign clubs only.

And while president Cairo accepts that United could afford the 23-year-old, he suggests that Belotti could reject a move to Old Trafford either way.

“I care about Belotti and I’m keeping hold of him,” Cairo told Italy’s Radio 24.

“He has a contract with Torino until 2021. I would only sell him for €100m, but even then he can refuse.

“The most important thing is what he wants, regardless of the release clause, and I believe he wants to stay.

“We are trying to build the best possible team at Torino.

“Belotti is busy on international duty [with Italy] at the moment and then he is getting married on Thursday — he invited me.”
