Torreira rejects Arsenal medical, but deal still on

Lucas Torreira has rejected an Arsenal medical. Is that even a thing?

In fairness, the Uruguay midfielder has merely declined the invitation to take his medical while on World Cup duty in Russia. Which seems fair enough, really. One thing at a time.

Torreira’s dad says there is nothing for Arsenal fans to worry about, with his boy’s move to the Gunners “as good as a fact” despite the pesky delays caused by inconvenient actual football.

He told Fox Sports Argentina: “There are many clubs who contacted us but we have given our word to Arsenal and are very satisfied with what they offered.

“The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining.

“Arsenal offered to do the medical examinations in Russia but we decided against it because we felt it’s inconvenient, it is not the right time.”

Arsenal have agreed a £26m fee for Torriera with Sampdoria, and it now seems Uruguay’s continued involvement in Russia is the only remaining obstacle. They play France today, with a semi-final against Brazil or Belgium on Tuesday if they prevail against Les Bleus.
