Tottenham ‘close’ to £50m ‘agreement’ after late swoop from PL rivals failed to get ‘green light’

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘getting closer’ to signing Brentford target Brennan Johnson from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.
The Wales international was vital for Nottm Forest last season as they managed to secure their Premier League status with a game to spare. He was one of their most important players as he grabbed eight goals and three assists in the league.
The 22-year-old is deserving of a move elsewhere and he has emerged as a key target for Tottenham. They are in the market for a new forward or two as they attempt to fill the huge void left by Bayern Munich newbie Harry Kane.
Spurs are not alone in targeting Johnson as he has been monitored by Brentford throughout this summer’s transfer window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday evening that “Forest have decided to reject a formal bid from Brentford for Johnson”.
The report adds: “Proposal was worth £43m plus add-ons and sell-on clause, not enough to get Forest green light. “Tottenham are still interested and had contacts to sign Johnson.”

The Times meanwhile are reporting that Spurs are ‘closing in a £50m’ deal for Johnson as an ‘agreement’ is expected to be reached. The report explains.
‘Postecoglou is keen to improve Tottenham’s striking options after the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. The club’s good start to the season, with seven points won from three games, has come amid a lean run of form for Richarlison, the Brazilian who has been starting at centre forward for Tottenham.
‘Brentford, who had a bid rejected in the summer, are still interested in the 22-year-old Wales forward but it is understood he would prefer a move to Spurs.
‘Forest are confident Tottenham will reach their valuation with the potential of players heading to the City Ground as part of the deal. It is understood centre back Davinson Sánchez is one of the players under consideration to head to Forest. Talks between the two clubs over the deal are said to be progressing ahead of Friday’s deadline.’
Spurs have been a breath of fresh air at the start of this season as new head coach Ange Postecoglou has overhauled their playing style.
The London outfit have picked up seven points from a possible nine in the Premier League after three games.
Johnson’s arrival would bolster their attacking options and provide Brazil international Richarlison with much-needed competition.
