Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon will reportedly complete his loan move to Hoffenheim today after travelling to Germany with his agent.
Sessegnon will join the Bundesliga side in search of regular first team opportunities after failing to break into the Spurs team.
Spurs bosses see Hoffenheim as a great chance for the player to get his confidence back and to continue his development.
According to the Daily Mirror, the 20-year-old will complete the move by signing for Hoffenheim later today.
Hoffenheim are one of numerous clubs thought to be interested in the English youngster. Sessegnon remains one of the brightest prospects in the country despite failing to play regularly under manager Jose Mourinho.
Spurs want to keep the player for the future as he could be a long-term option at either left-back or left-midfield. His versatility down the left flank is one of the reasons why the North London club signed him back in August 2019 for £25 million.
The arrival of Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee has pushed Sessegnon down the pecking order at left-back.
Mourinho also continues to use a formation which doesn’t suit Sessegnon playing at left-midfield. The Portuguese coach tends to play 4-3-3 with Son down the left flank instead of the Englishman.
Despite the move, Sessegnon will remain an important part of Spurs’ future. The player has previously revealed how he is desperate to make an impact at the club under Mourinho.
Sessegnon joined Spurs from Fulham after breaking through in the Championship during the 2016-17 season. His form at Craven Cottage attracted interest from Europe’s elite clubs, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and even a late offer from Man Utd.
Spurs have been busy strengthening their squad before the transfer window closes on Monday. They’ve signed five players in total, including Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton and Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid.
