Tottenham enter fight with rival pair for Spanish attacker who’ll move on in summer window

Tottenham are reportedly tracking Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio for the summer, when he’ll likely move on for free, but rivals Arsenal and Manchester United are in the mix.

Asensio has been a useful asset for Real during coming up to eight years at the club, in which he has been in the side for seven seasons. In that time, the attacker has racked up 264 appearances, scoring 55 goals and assisting 29.

He’s been rather effective of late, as last season he hit his highest goals tally in La Liga, scoring 10 times. This season, he’s netted four goals and provided three assists in 17 games.

Amid his good form he’s become the subject of interest from a few big names. Indeed, Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with moves for the attacker.

And that he’ll move on from Real Madrid seems likely now. He’s started just six league games this term and manager Carlo Ancelotti recently admitted he doesn’t “care much” if Asensio stays.

With his contract up at the end of the season, it sounds like he’ll be plying his trade elsewhere in the next campaign.

It’s not just Arsenal and United who are keen from the Premier League. Football Insider reports Tottenham are now tracking the Spaniard ahead of the summer window.

The report suggests Tottenham’s league rivals Arsenal and United are set to ‘fight it out’ with Spurs, with all three keen on the free transfer.

Given he’ll likely have the choice of three of England’s biggest clubs, Asensio is in a good position and can figure out which situation would suit him best.

Tottenham have one of the best attacking partnerships in the league in Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. Dejan Kulusevski is a regular on the right-hand side of the attack, while Richarlison and Arnaut Danjuma provide options as well.

The latter is set to return to Villarreal in the summer and it’s unclear yet whether Spurs will trigger their option to buy him. What’s more, Richarlison is reportedly on the radar of Real.

If he were to move on, he and Asensio could essentially swap clubs. The Spaniard is also capable as an attacking midfielder, so he’d provide an option that Spurs don’t really have, which could be his way into the side.

The attack at Arsenal seems more well set and United are tracking some big players – such as Victor Osimhen – so Tottenham might be Asensio’s best bet.
