Tottenham battle for Rabiot

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to offer Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot a bumper contract to beat several Premier League rivals to sign him.

Rabiot has constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past year.

Arsenal were linked with the former PSG midfielder ahead of the winter transfer window earlier this year.

This deal ended up falling through and then Manchester United came close to signing him in the summer.

They even agreed a deal with Juventus but this transfer did get over the line as the clubs butted heads over finances.

Rabiot entered the final year of his contract with Juventus during the summer and this has seemingly spurred him on to produce some of the best performances of his career.

The typically defensive-minded midfielder has played in a more advanced role for Juventus this term as he has provided more goals and assists than usual. He has three goals and two assists in eleven Serie A outings.

The 27-year-old has taken that positive form into the World Cup, and to the surprise of some, he has been one of France’s better performers.

This has fuelled talk that he could leave Juventus as early as January with them willing to ‘sacrifice’ him for €20m.

Arsenal and Newcastle United are among the clubs being linked with Rabiot.

Rabiot has not exactly ruled out a transfer either as he would “like to play” in the Premier League.

“Premier League attracts me,” Rabiot said. “I’ve always said I’d like to play there — will it be at the end of my contract at Juve? I don’t know.

“I don’t have a favourite team in England, no team where I’d necessarily like to play.”

Italian outlet Calciomercato goes as far as to say that Rabiot ‘dreams’ of one day playing in the Premier League.

Tottenham are said to be keen to sign him as Antonio Conte thinks he would ‘fit perfectly’ into his system.

It is noted that ex-Juventus director of football Fabio Paratici brought Rabiot to Italy and he could now bring him to England.

The report adds that Spurs will ‘convince him to sign’ by ‘offering him a four-year contract worth 8 million net per season’.

This is said to compare to ‘7 million net plus bonuses’ that he currently earns at Juventus.

They also bring up suggestions that Conte could leave Tottenham to return to Juventus.

Spurs are reportedly offering ‘crazy figures’ to keep their manager beyond this season as the Italian would earn ’20 million euros net’ if he signs a contract extension.

It is added that Conte ‘would be a mad man’ to turn his nose up at such a lofty wage.
