Tottenham hijack Danjuma transfer despite completing ‘medical and media’ at Everton

Tottenham have hijacked Everton’s attempts to sign Arnaut Danjuma on loan until the end of the season, according to widespread reports.
The Villarreal winger had arrived in the UK to have talks with the Toffees and complete a move to Goodison Park earlier this month.
However, it now looks like he will be playing his football in north London for the rest of the season with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic journalist David Ornstein both reporting Tottenham have hijacked Everton’s move.
Romano claims that Everton even had the “medical and media done” in preparation of an announcement but now the former Bournemouth winger is travelling to London for another medical.
The transfer expert tweeted: “Tottenham are trying to hijack Danjuma deal. Villarreal star had an agreement in place with Everton and medical tests done and Sunday, just waiting to sign official documents. Decision soon as Spurs are trying to enter the race just before the final formal steps.
Before adding another tweet, Romano wrote: “Tottenham have offered loan deal for Danjuma, also discussing buy option clause — Spurs feel they can get it done and hijack the deal after Everton agreement. Danjuma, travelling to London — after medical and media done with Everton on Saturday/Sunday.”
Romano later gave the deal his classic ‘here we go’ confirmation and declared the ‘hijack completed’.
And the reliable Ornstein also confirmed the news in a piece for The Athletic, he wrote: “Arnaut Danjuma is en route to Tottenham Hotspur for a medical ahead of a proposed loan move, after the north London club made a late attempt to scupper Everton’s bid for the Villarreal player.
“Danjuma, 25, had looked close to a loan move to Everton and had undergone a medical on Saturday.
“His switch to Merseyside was not formalised, however, with some paperwork needing to be completed.
“That left the door open for Tottenham to make an 11th-hour play for the former Bournemouth man.”
Danjuma will be hoping to help take some of the goalscoring burden away from Harry Kane, who scored his latest goal in a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Monday night.
And Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is keen to help Kane match his ambitions by bringing silverware to Spurs.
“Today he was amazing. I think he scored a fantastic goal, the execution, to control the ball, then to kick it in that way, only a world-class striker can score this goal,” Conte told reporters after the match at Craven Cottage.
“About the spirit that I spoke before, I want to underline Harry played with a fever and he was not so good, but he wanted to play because he understood the moment.
“He understood he is a point of reference for us, for me, for the other players and, with (goalkeeper) Hugo (Lloris), they are the two players who are a point of reference for the dressing room. Today I am really happy because I think he was rewarded with a goal.
“For sure, I would like to help him and me, also his team-mates, to try to do something important, to win something with Tottenham because he loves Tottenham.
“Tottenham is in his heart and it should be good if together we were able to win something, because then it is important to have this record, but I think it could be more important if you win a trophy.”
