Tottenham Hotpsur have expressed interest in signing Trabzonspor striker Alexander Sorloth, according to their club president.
Sorloth joined Trabzonspor from Crystal Palace on a two-year loan deal last summer. In 2019/20, the Norweigan was one of the most prolific forwards in all of Europe.
In his first season in Turkey, he was involved in 49 games in all competitions, and he scored 33 goals and he provided a further 11 assists.
This form has alerted clubs in Europe who are interested in signing him this summer. Tottenham and RB Leipzig are among the main teams to be keen on signing him.
Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has spoken on the interest in Sorloth and confirmed that Tottenham one of the teams keen on the striker:
“Sorloth wants to go. But every player who wants to go, there is no world we say OK. Leipzig are interested and we meet with Tottenham.
“We will act in Trabzonspor interests.”
Any deal involving Sorloth this summer will be a unique one. He is still officially a Crystal Palace player, as he enters his second season on loan with Trabzonspor.
But with Palace unable to recall him, Trabzonspor are able to buy him permanently for a small fee before selling him to make a significant profit.
Sorloth spent two seasons at Palace in the Premier League between 2017 and 2019. He joined for around £9m but he struggled to find any form.
He featured in just 20 games in all competitions, with his only goal coming in the League Cup during his second season.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he wants a new forward this summer. Speaking during his press-conference before Sunday’s loss to Everton, Mourinho said:
“Yes, I want, I need a striker, but I want to make it very, very clear that the club – the structure above me – knows that I need a striker and also wants a striker.
“Are we going to get one? I honestly believe so. For the balance of the squad, the team needs it because at this moment the squad is getting very balanced, with different options for different positions.”
