Tottenham make transfer breakthrough as Postecoglou target is ‘close’ with deal now in ‘final stages’
Tottenham look to be closing in on their next signing as Ange Postecoglou’s side are close to landing a deal for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.
Spurs have been long-term admirers of the 22-year-old and they seem to have had a breakthrough in their talks with Wolfsburg.
Postecoglou’s side have already agreed personal terms with the Dutch defender and Tottenham now seem confident in landing a deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with the German side as the deal is now in the ‘final stages’.
“Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement with Wolfsburg for Micky Van de Ven! Deal advancing to final stages now,” Romano Tweeted.
“There are still details to sort but talks underway — agreement could be done soon. Personal terms, 100% agreed.”
Tottenham have already signed the likes of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon this summer.
They have also signed Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro on a permanent basis following successful loan spells with the club last season.
It’s no secret that Postecoglou has been chasing a new defensive option and it seems as if he has got one of his top targets in Van de Ven.
Liverpool also held an interest in the 22-year-old earlier in the window, but Spurs seem to have won the race.
Tottenham’s squad is starting to shape up nicely ahead of the new season, although the future of Harry Kane still hangs in the balance.
The latest reports have claimed that Kane ‘expects to stay’ in North London if he does not leave the club before the new Premier League season starts.
Bayern Munich are pushing hard for his signature, but they are yet to agree a transfer fee with Tottenham as things stand.
“Despite gap in valuation after face to face meeting on Monday, Bayern will insist on Harry Kane deal as they still feel confident,” Romano reported.
“Bayern want to bid again and go closer to €100m package for Kane. This is why they don’t want to spend big money on new goalkeeper.”
The addition of Van de Ven will be a big boost to Postecoglou, but he will be keen to iron out Kane’s situation as soon as possible.
