Tottenham midfielder jets off to Italy to seal Serie A move

Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards is on the verge of completing a move to Serie A side Udinese, according to reports.

Edwards used to be considered one of the most exciting youngsters in Tottenham’s development system, and his reputation was only boosted when Mauricio Pochettino admitted he saw similarities between the forward and a young Lionel Messi a couple of years ago.

“The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remind me a little bit of the beginning of Messi,” Pochettino said at the time.”

Edwards has failed to kick on however, and has yet to make his Premier League debut, with Pochettino backtracking on those comments at the end of 2017.

And Edwards – who is in the last year of his contract at Spurs – was loaned out twice last season to Norwich City – when they were in the Championship – and Dutch side Excelsior.

He only managed one appearance for Norwich but did contribute two goals and four assists for Excelsior in 25 appearances – despite the club being relegated from the Eredivisie.

And now website Tutto Udinese (via Sport Witness) claims that Edwards has jetted out to Italy to sign for Udinese.

The club ‘worked silently’ to get their man and with a lack of opportunities at Tottenham, Edwards looks set to seal the deal.
