Tottenham will move for £50m Chelsea target ‘this week’ after Postecoglou gives green light
Tottenham are set to make an approach to sign highly-rated Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson ‘this week,’ according to reports.
The Wales international enjoyed a fantastic 2022/23 season with the Tricky Trees and was arguably the key reason why they avoided relegation.
Johnson scored eight goals and made three assists in the Premier League last term and has been linked with a host of top European clubs.
For instance, Chelsea considered making a move for Johnson after they missed out on Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise. They are yet to make a concrete offer for him, however.
It now seems, though, that Tottenham are the most likely team to sign the 22-year-old this summer.
Ange Postecoglou is looking to bring in more attacking reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.
Johnson would be a good option. He has the ability to play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger on either flank, so could provide competition for the likes of Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and others.
According to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Postecoglou has approved a move for the Nottingham Forest star.
On Twitter, Romano wrote: “Tottenham, prepared to approach Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson this week.

“Ange Postecoglou has already approved this potential move. It’s not an easy deal as Forest already rejected big proposals but interest in Brennan is growing now.”
As suggested by Romano, Nottingham Forest have already rejected offers for Johnson this summer. Brentford made a club-record £35m bid for the Welshman in July, but it was rejected.
Reports suggest that the Tricky Trees are only willing to accept an offer of £50m for the attacker. That is no surprise, either, given his importance to the team.
With that in mind, Tottenham will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line. They may need to sell players before they can do so, though.
Postecoglou is willing to sanction the exits of several players this summer. For instance, the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Japhet Tanganga and several others have all been heavily linked with moves away from Spurs.
If Tottenham can offload some of those unwanted players, a move for Johnson could become a reality. Whether or not they are willing to spend £50m on him, however, remains to be seen.
