Leicester City will demand a fee of £55m for James Maddison this summer, who is reportedly open to joining Newcastle United or Tottenham.

Indeed, the England international is expected to sign for a Premier League club after the Foxes were relegated to the Championship.

Maddison has proven he has the quality to succeed at the highest level. So, it will be interesting to see who wins the battle for his signature.

As previously noted by Football365, Newcastle or Tottenham are by far the most likely destinations for the attacking midfielder.

Spurs took the first step in the battle after allegedly offering £50m for Maddison and Harvey Barnes. But, Leicester were never going to accept such a low offer.

Now, the Foxes have responded by slapping a hefty valuation on their star player. According to the Sunday ExpressLeicester are hoping to receive a fee in the region of £55m for Maddison.

The Englishman has just one year left on his current contract, so it is almost certain he will leave the King Power this summer, despite his importance to the team.

In 2022/23, Maddison made 30 Premier League appearances for Leicester. In the process, he scored 10 goals and made nine assists. This gives him an outstanding average of 0.63 goal contributions per match.

Thanks to his good performances, Maddison has earned a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. So, it’s very difficult to imagine him playing in the Championship next season.

It’s expected to be a summer of change at Leicester, with several incomings and outgoings.

Indeed, they have just announced their new manager, Enzo Maresca. He has signed a three-year contract at the King Power, following a successful coaching stint with Manchester City.

Now, he is charged with taking Leicester back into the Premier League.

As mentioned, Maddison and Barnes are likely to leave this summer. Also, Timothy Castagne has emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal, so he could depart the Foxes, too.

Maddison has the potential to play a key role for both Newcastle and Tottenham. For Newcastle, they are looking for players who are good enough to play in the Champions League, and he certainly fits into that category.

As for Tottenham, they need to improve their squad significantly if they want to avoid another disappointing season like in 2022/23.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle or Tottenham are willing to pay Maddison’s £55m price tag. Both teams are expected to make bids for him in the near future.
