Tottenham set to offload flop and receive centre-back target in one perfect transfer move

Tottenham are reportedly at the final stages of their deal to sign Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson for just £11million, while they’ll offload Davinson Sanchez in the same move.

Spurs have seemed keen to improve their centre-back options this summer. They’ve reportedly agreed a deal with Wolfsburg which will see Micky van de Ven join for £43million.

He’s been one of their main targets for some time, alongside Edmond Tapsoba, who they’re still working on signing.

Another potential inbound centre-back move is for Galatasaray man Nelsson. Turkish outlet Takvim suggests Tottenham were keen on signing him not long ago, but felt the £21.5million Galatasaray were asking for was too much.

However, the Turkish outfit came back with an offer that works for both sides. Indeed, it’s reported that they suggested Tottenham pay £11million and give them Sanchez in return for Nelsson.

Tottenham are said to have ‘welcomed this offer’ and it’s stated they are now ‘very close’ to completing the deal. There is still the potential that it’s knocked off course, though.

Indeed, the report states Spartak Moscow wants Sanchez for around £10.3million plus bonuses. If he was open to the idea of that move rather than making the switch to Galatasaray, he could dig his heels and ensure Nelsson doesn’t move to Spurs.

It’s currently unclear what he wants to do. The report states he is ‘expected to make his final decision’ and if he accepts the terms of the move to Galatasaray, ‘official signatures will be made’, though whether or not his decision is the one Spurs wants remains to be seen.

If he is to move, it’ll be one in, one out at the back for them. Nelsson looks a quality addition, having played a consistent role over the past two seasons for Galatasaray; they won the title last term.

Sanchez has failed to make many convincing performances, so it’ll be a plus to get him off the books while getting a good player in return.

Whether or not Tottenham are still interested in signing Tapsoba, as they’ll have now signed two centre-backs this window when if the Nelsson deal goes through, remains to be seen.

Indeed, in terms of numbers, nothing changes if this deal is to go through, given a player will depart too. As such, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Ange Postecoglou was still keen on adding another recruit into the mix as well.
