Tottenham outcast Postecoglou doesn’t rate holds crunch talks with Daniel Levy amid exit rumours

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Eric Dier has held talks with club chairman Daniel Levy after being frozen out of the squad by Ange Postecoglou.

The England international has not been named in the starting XI or the bench in Spurs’ first five matches in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup since the start of the season.

The arrival of Micky van de Ven has seen Dier, who made 33 Premier League appearances last season, fall down the pecking order.

Postecoglou has recently sanctioned the exits of Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele, despite the transfer window closing in England last week.

Tottenham could now look to offload Dier, too, but with the Saudi transfer window set to close tonight (Thursday), and the Turkish window open until September 15, they are running out of time to find suitors.

Dier has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract and although Spurs have previously rejected offers for him, they could now look to move him on.

According to the Daily Mail, Dier held a meeting with Levy last week to ‘gain greater clarity over his situation.’

Dier has been at Tottenham for over nine years, and has been a stalwart in the side under an array of different managers. If the start of this season is anything to go by, however, it seems that Postecoglou doesn’t trust his defensive abilities.

Former Tottenham captain Hugo Loris also spoke to Levy after receiving similar treatment, and both players ‘could yet book deadline day moves to Saudi Arabia’ before the closure of the Saudi Pro League window on Thursday evening.

The departure of Sanchez could offer Dier a route back into the first team, though. Sanchez was named on the bench for all four of Tottenham’s Premier League matches this term and it’s logical that Dier will now take his place.

Postecoglou’s shake-up may be ruffling a few feathers at Spurs, but it is paying dividends after an unbeaten Premier League start.

The London club have won against Bournemouth, Burnley, and Manchester United since their opening day draw against Brentford. They now sit in second-place in the Premier League table as we head into the international break.
