Tottenham have made Lille forward Jonathan David their top target to replace Harry Kane if he leaves the club this summer, according to reports.

Spurs face the prospect of losing Kane this summer with the England international entering the final 12 months of his contract at the club.

It doesn’t appear Kane has any intention of renewing his deal in north London with rumours he could be on his way to Bayern Munich over the next month.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had reportedly been adamant that Kane was not going anywhere this summer and was willing to take the risk of losing him for nothing next summer.

However, Spurs owner Joe Lewis has reportedly intervened and told Levy that he must sell Kane this summer if the 30-year-old continues to reject new contract proposals.

And now the latest reports have insisted that Bayern Munich bosses are in London to discuss the deal with Levy as they look to seal a transfer “this week”.

Sky Germany reporter Plettenberg also revealed that the Bayern bosses have a “very good and respectful relation” with Levy, which should help negotiations run smoothly.

And Tottenham are already planning for life without Kane with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claiming Lille forward David is the man they want to replace the England international if he leaves.

The 23-year-old had a brilliant season for the French side last term with David contributing 24 goals and four assists in 37 Ligue 1 appearances despite Lille only finishing fifth in the standings.

Amid numerous names being linked with a move to replace Kane at Tottenham, Gazzetta dello Sport adds that Spurs have ‘followed’ David and the Canada international is now ‘top of the list’ succeed the England captain.

The Italian publication warn that Manchester United’s huge €85m deal for Rasmus Hojlund ‘will end up causing the costs of others to rise as well’ with claims that Lille could now ask for something close to that.

However, their current asking price for David remains at €50m (£43m) for now with claims that fee could even fall to €40m in August.

There could be a lot of change at Tottenham this summer if Kane goes, with Ange Postecoglou about to take charge of the club for the first time.

And former Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham is unsure about the appointment of the former Australia international but he’s ready to give him his “full support”.

Sheringham told Lord Ping: “Like a lot of Tottenham fans, I wasn’t so sure about the appointment. He has a great reputation but there’s respectfully a big difference between playing expansive football against the likes of Inverness and Hibernian and doing it with Tottenham taking on the likes of Manchester City.

“It’s going to be a tough ask. Postecoglou’s appointment will certainly be no worse than the last two or three managers that we’ve had at the club. The last three appointments have gone down the stable route, playing pretty dire football. I’m absolutely going to give Postecoglou my full support.”
