Tottenham ‘reject’ latest Kane bid from Bayern Munich as Monday meeting is revealed
Tottenham have turned down the latest offer from Bayern Munich for Harry Kane, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
Kane put the uncertainty over his future to one side to produce a classic display of predatory finishing in what could prove to be his final appearance in Spurs’ colours against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday.
Bayern Munich are reported to have lodged their latest offer for Kane on Friday and an apparent self-imposed deadline of midnight was set by the German club, but there had been no further news until now on that bid and Kane grabbed a hat-trick in 55 minutes of a 5-1 friendly win over Shakhtar.
Kane added another goal in the 79th-minute before he left the pitch a minute later to a standing ovation following more chants of ‘he’s one of our own’ and at the conclusion of the clash the club’s record goal-scorer walked around the pitch to clap all four corners of the ground in what felt a significant moment.
Bayern have been public about their desire to sign Kane all summer, with their honorary president Uli Hoeness and president Herbert Hainer talking openly in the media last month about trying to sign the England captain.
But Ornstein has now revealed in The Athletic that Tottenham have ‘rejected the latest offer’ from the Bundesliga champions for Kane.
Bayern have ‘now seen another approach to land the 30-year-old before the start of the new campaign knocked back’ after bids in June and July were turned down.
‘Bayern officials are due to hold a pre-scheduled meeting on Monday with transfer updates set to be on the agenda.
‘Kane, who return to pre-season training with Tottenham on July 12, is into the final 12 months of his existing contract in north London and the club still hope they can convince him to extend.’
Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski insists he and his team-mates will “do everything to make him stay” at the club.
“He scored four goals, so very good,” Kulusevski said.
“Nah, he’s unbelievable. Honestly, his mentality, I can learn from him like everybody. He just goes out and performs day in day out.
“He’s a true professional. I’m happy I helped him score today but of course we want him to stay and we’ll do everything to make him stay.”
On whether it would be best to have Kane’s future sorted sooner rather than later, Kulusevski added: “I think it would. On the other hand, you can only control what you can control. We players cannot do anything about it.
“We work our hardest, try to stay ready and the players that manage it, it’s up to them.”
