Tottenham submit €30m offer for Barcelona full-back
Tottenham have submitted a bid for Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal, according to reports.
Emerson is a Brazil international who spent last season with Real Betis. He played in 38 games for the club in all competitions, scoring two goals and laying on four assists from defence.
Barcelona signed him earlier this summer for a reported €9million (£7.7m). However, the 22-year-old could be involved in another transfer before the window shuts on Tuesday.
Early Winner: Mason Greenwood and making a difference
Sky Sports claim that Tottenham have submitted a €30m (£25.7m) bid for Emerson.
They are hoping to bring in a new full-back as Serge Aurier is out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Portuguese has played Japhet Tanganga in Spurs’ first three Premier League fixtures. It’s thought that he wants a more experienced option to compete with the academy graduate going forward.
The report states that personal terms should not be a problem for Spurs, as Emerson is supposedly keen to move to the Prem.
The decision now remains with Barcelona, whose financial struggles have been widely reported this summer.
They have had to sell a number of players, while star man Lionel Messi couldn’t be tied down to a new deal.
Blaugrana boss Ronald Koeman can already rely on Sergino Dest on the right side of defence. Emerson could therefore be allowed to leave if the Dutchman feels he has ample cover.
The defender could become Spurs’ fifth signing of the transfer window. Bryan Gil arrived from Sevilla in a swap deal involving Erik Lamela, while Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini have both arrived from Atalanta.
Their most recent transfer is Pape Matar Sarr, who has joined the club permanently from Metz. He will spend the rest of the current campaign back in France on loan.
Spurs continued their perfect league start with a 1-0 victory over Watford on Sunday.
South Korea star Heung-Min Son got the only goal, a free-kick which went past everyone and fooled Watford keeper Daniel Bachmann.
After the game, Nuno told reporters: “We worked hard. The boys have been very committed to our idea on how we want to be. We still have a lot of things to improve, performances help create this atmosphere.
“We go beyond our own limits when we need to. This is what the boys did today. It was a tough game.
“We have a very good group of players. Individually they have their own targets but Son always works for the team.
“We need everybody. Today Harry helped to lift the team a lot. He is improving, he did 90 minutes after playing on Thursday which shows his commitment. We are thankful for the fans being supportive.”
