Tottenham trio clearly ‘not good enough’ as pundit rips into players after ‘Spursy’ FA Cup exit

Jamie O’Hara hit out at several Tottenham Hotspur players after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship high-flyers Sheffield United.

Spurs exited the FA Cup in the fifth round on Wednesday night as they were beaten at Bramall Lane against the Blades, who are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League.

Iliman Ndiaye scored a superb solo goal to break the deadlock with around ten minutes to go and Tottenham were unable to grab a late equaliser. This defeat comes a year after they were beaten by the same scoreline against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Tottenham have subsequently missed a major opportunity to go far in the tournament as they would have faced Blackburn Rovers in the quarter-finals if they advanced. Man Utd and Man City are the only big six clubs still in the FA Cup.

O’Hara was unsurprisingly pretty annoyed following Tottenham’s defeat. He thinks Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are “not good enough” and he also questioned the club’s attackers.

“There has to be a time when the man [Harry Kane] needs a rest. Other players have to step in and do a job for you,” O’Hara told talkSPORT (via TEAMtalk).

“You’ve got Richarlison, [Heung-Min] Son and Lucas [Moura] in your side. You expect to create chances, take nothing away from Sheffield united. Son is miles off it.

“Ben Davies is solid. He works hard, I like him. [Eric] Dier is the same, Davinson Sanchez. But if you look at that back three on paper, when you’re realistic about your chances of winning the FA Cup, that back three is not good enough.

“(From Tottenham there was) no determination, no resilience, no passion. It was Spursy. So Spursy.”

Spurs assistant Cristian Stellini stated post-match that his players have “missed a great opportunity”.

“We used a good team to play this game against this type of opponent, the problem was the energy,” Stellini said.

“If that’s not at the same level as your opponent sometimes you can lose. We had opportunities but couldn’t find the target. This was the problem for me, the energy in this type of game. I’m disappointed with that.

“It’s not about motivation, I don’t think so. If you don’t play consistently, maybe sometimes you try to manage the energy differently or drop it in the start because you think the game is easy. Our games are never easy. It’s about mentality.

“I think we missed a big opportunity. We have to apologise to the fans, there were 5,000 here to watch our performance and we apologise because we missed a great opportunity.”
