Tottenham willing to pay rivals £34m for Harry Kane replacement, dealing blow to Euro giant

Tottenham are reportedly prepared to pay Chelsea’s asking price of approximately £34million for Romelu Lukaku, dealing a blow to interested side Juventus.
It’s unclear yet how much of a blow Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich will be for Spurs. He propped them up last season, scoring 30 Premier League goals as the rest of the side were very underwhelming, eventually finishing in eighth place.
Without his goals in the side, they could have another poor season. However, Ange Postecoglou has recruited well, and still has a front three of Heung-min Son, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, so things may not be as bad as they seem.
Postecoglou is looking to add to the options he has up top with the money received from Kane. Tottenham have been linked with Lukaku since Kane’s exit began to look real.
The Belgian forward has also been the subject of reports regarding a swap deal between Chelsea and Juventus. That would have seen him head to Juve along with around £34million, and Dusan Vlahovic head the other way, though the Blues were looking to alter those terms.
Now, it seems Juventus won’t be getting the money or Lukaku. Indeed, Tuttojuve reports Tottenham have ‘decided to satisfy the requests’ of Chelsea, and are ‘ready to put the €40million (approx £34million) on the plate’.
The report also states Juventus would have been unable to pay Chelsea’s asking price without the exit of Vlahovic.
However, with things coming to a head between the two clubs regarding the price the Blues would pay along with Lukaku, it seems much easier for them to accept Tottenham’s offer.
If Chelsea are to accept Spurs’ offer and Lukaku becomes their player, it’ll be interesting to see how often he plays. The last time he played in England, two seasons ago, he scored just eight Premier League goals.
While he’s racked up 121 goals in the English top-flight in 278 games, a good chunk of those were early in his career, and he’s spent a good deal of time away from England.
Tottenham are not paying a huge fee if the £34million is the price he sells for, though. As such, they might not mind all too much if he doesn’t hit the ground running, especially with other options around him that can play up top.
Of course, though, it would be ideal for them if he did have a good spell at the club, especially if he’s to be the striker to take up Kane’s previous role.
