Tottenham ‘would do well’ under sacked Premier League manager who ‘plays on the front foot’
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson thinks Brendan Rodgers would “do well” if he is appointed Tottenham manager.
Leicester City sacked Rodgers last week after his side’s 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace.
Jean-Philippe Mateta’s last-gasp winner made it seven Premier League matches without a win, leaving the Foxes in the bottom three.
Not many predicted Leicester to be so rubbish this season, and despite their woeful form, Rodgers’ stock remains high.
There have been lots of managerial changes in the Premier League in 2022-23 with Tottenham currently on the search for a new boss after sacking Antonio Conte.
Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini will take charge of the north Londoners until the end of the season with Rodgers one of many being tipped to take on the role on a permanent basis.
The Northern Irish manager enjoyed a wonderful time at the King Power before this season, guiding them to back-to-back fifth-place finishes and the club’s first-ever FA Cup triumph.
He may not be the sort of ambitious appointment Spurs fans will hope for with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann on the market, but Paul Merson thinks Rodgers could be a great appointment.
“Brendan Rodgers ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham,” Merson wrote.
“He plays on the front foot, and that’s what the fans want. They want to see an entertaining football team. They might not have won anything when I was playing, but they were very entertaining.
“They have the players to pull it off, and they could do well under Rodgers.”

Spurs host top-four hopefuls Brighton on Saturday afternoon in a game that is unfortunately not televised.
The Seagulls have been outstanding under Roberto De Zerbi and their 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Tuesday has left them sixth in the Premier League, four points behind Spurs with two games in hand.
A win for De Zerbi’s men in north London could prove to be fateful for Spurs, but Merson does not think that will happen, predicting a 2-0 win for the hosts.
“Brighton get their shots on target, but they concede goals as well,” he added. “They managed 31 shots on target against Brentford only to score three goals and concede three goals as well.
“I don’t see how Brighton can live with Harry Kane.
“Tottenham Hotspur need to win this game. Otherwise, they’re completely and utterly out of the top-four race.
“Tottenham handle pressure a lot better than Brighton, and I think they’ll win this game.”
