Transfer deadline day: Relive all the comings and goings

Editor F365
Tomiyasu Saul Griezmann Transfer Deadline Day

Another transfer deadline day in the can. Cristiano Ronaldo is back at Manchester United. Lots of other things happen. But the biggest story of the day was probably the deal that didn’t happen…

00.13: Griezmann to Atletico is also done. Loan with a €40m obligation to buy. Barcelona have bought Luuk de Jong to replace him, and that is in itself clearly a sign that we’ve all had more than enough transfer window for today.

00.05: Full story on Saul Niguez’s move to Chelsea is here. Seemed to be nailed on all day and then there was a minute when it wasn’t, and then it was again. Great stuff. Classic deadline day tale. One to tell the grandkids. Saul himself is “very excited” about it all.

00.02: Official announcements now please now. (If there is such a thing as an announcement more official than a Fabrizio HWG)

23.56: And still they come. Cameron Carter-Vickers has left Spurs on loan for the 874th time. Celtic this time for the USA defender, and it comes with an option to buy. Midnight deadline in Scotland, so that’s gone through with time to spare. Four whole minutes of it.

23.47: PHEW: Saul Niguez to Chelsea is done after all that late excitement and twists and wifi and such. On loan for the season, with some sort of option or obligation at the end of it, can’t remember which.

23.44: Merson and Allardyce are arguing about Ronaldo from opposite sides of the Sky Sports News studio. I’m going mad. Incredible to think that were it not for dodgy Spanish wifi we might never have got to see Merson and Allardyce arguing about Ronaldo from opposite sides of the Sky Sports News studio. Butterfly effect, that.

23.29: The Spanish online registration system is apparently down in what Kaveh, sounding about 400 years old as he does so, describes as “some kind of wifi computing problem”. I remember when it was Spanish fax machines rather than online registration systems. Who remembers Spanish fax machines? You sir! You look like someone who remembers Spanish fax machines!?

23.21: Kaveh has his confidence back re. Saul. It’s back on again! RANDOM CAPS!

23.19: Yes, we’re at the RANDOM CAPS stage of the evening.

23.19: It could be because Griezmann’s move has fallen through. We may have LATE DRAMA here, folks.

23.18: WAIT! A TWIST! Saul Niguez to Chelsea is now “touch and go” according to Kaveh, who had been very confident even as the seconds ticked away.

23.06: So then, here are the winners of the transfer window. Big Danny Levy can’t believe his luck, surely. It was all just too easy for him in the end. Playing the game he loves best against an opponent so brilliantly and memorably described by Liew as “the football agent equivalent of the first question on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”

23.04: That’s one possible deal-sheeter sorted. Saul Niguez is another, with Atletico Madrid presumably a bit busy sorting the whole Griezmann caper first.

23:02: Salomon Rondon to Everton confirmed bang on 11pm, and in fairness that’s a full hour earlier than we expected so heartfelt thanks to all involved for that one.

23.00: Once again, the transfer window simply closes.

22.49: And Spurs confirm the “mutual termination” of Serge Aurier’s contract.

22.48: Arsenal have signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna for €18m. Tick another one off the list.

22.45: Bellerin news here, Aurier news here.

22.42: In the top SSN moment of the day since Kaveh got a “three-word message” that read “The deal is off completely”, Sam Allardyce has referred to step-overs as foot-overs.

22.37: Hector Bellerin has joined Real Betis on loan. The pieces are all falling into place, and still no mention of the dreaded deal sheets…

22.34: Come on, everyone. Get this stuff announced.

22.17: Reports now suggesting Spurs and Serge Aurier might agree to terminate his contract. For all his flaws, it would seem a sad if probably necessary end. He’s clearly not in Nuno’s plans.

22.09: They’ve been someway down the list of today’s headlines but in the inevitable transfer window fallout over the coming days I suspect we might be hearing quite a bit from Newcastle.

21.51: Yes, Palace! At least someone listens to me around here. Odsonne Edouard is DONE.

21.48: Do I wanna do a liveblog NO. Do I wanna do news NO do I wanna go to bed YES so stop f***ing around professional football clubs.

21.38: I’d love to go to bed tbh.

21.21: Sky Sports News telling Palace fans not to go to bed yet because Edouard is happening. Good news for Palace fans, but point of order: far too early to wheel out the “DON’T GO TO BED!” line, surely.

21.17: This one looks on.

20.57: And Tomiyasu to Arsenal hasn’t actually been confirmed yet either, has it? And Rondon to Everton! Oh Christ, there’s still loads left.

20.53: Let’s have a (nearly) 9pm update on the state of play with two hours left before we enter deal sheet time. Think most clubs are done now, but there are still some fairly sizeable bits and pieces still outstanding. Griezmann is an obvious one, but Saul to Chelsea and Edouard to Palace are a couple more that look like being done but are still to be confirmed.

20.37: West Ham have got Alex Kral from Spartak.

20.27: Looks like Griezmann back to Atleti could be a goer. Getting Saul off the wage bill has perhaps freed up some room for Griezmann’s return, while Barca would be absolutely delighted to get rid of Griezmann’s wages. And Barcelona might be bringing in Luuk de Jong as a replacement. If anything underlines the financial strife at Barcelona, it’s the sight of Luuk De Jong and Martin Braithwaite as their front two. No disrespect, but it’s a bit of a step down isn’t it?

20.06: More from Kane’s talkSPORT interview can be found here if you’re that way inclined.

19.48: Just occurred to me that Emerson Royal follows in the footsteps of Ledley King and Kevin-Prince Boateng at Spurs and this has given me the worst feature idea of all time.

19.23: Harry Kane has said some quite interesting and slightly pointed things to talkSPORT after an… interesting summer.

When asked if he fears the transfer saga has tarnished his reputation, Kane added: “No, I don’t think so.

“I think anyone involved in the football industry knows the ins and outs.

“I was quite calm with the situation, but when you’re in it and you know the truth, then your conscience is clear.

“There’s always going to be noise. My whole career I’ve had ups and downs from when I’m young to where I am, that’s just part of the parcel of it.

“A lot of people that know me will say I’m a professional athlete who’s dedicated my life to this game and that’s what I’ll continue to do.

“I’ll look forward now, the aim has always been to win silverware with Tottenham and it’s been that aim every year.”

The “conscience is clear” line is the one, isn’t it?

19.15: All the words on Emerson Royal’s move to Spurs.

18.56: Anyway. On to other matters. Here’s some flesh on the Saul Niguez bones.

18.48: Genuinely, though. Bidding 200 million quid for a bloke who is out of contract in a year. Rejecting 200 million quid for a bloke who is out of contract in a year. Remember when covid was going to make football look at itself and be a bit less completely f***ing mental?

18.46: Assorted reports suggesting Real Madrid were willing to pay north of 220 million euro for Mbappe, but PSG still ‘stalled’ the deal until time ran out. Baller move, you have to say, given he’ll be off to Madrid in a year for absolutely nothing. But then PSG, bankrolled by Qatar, turning down that kind of money is really less mad than Real Madrid somehow cobbling it together.

18.44: Chelsea the latest club to perform the old “loan out, extend the contract” trick. Ethan Ampadu is off to Venezia for the year but is now contracted to Chelsea through to summer 2024.

18.36: Lee Hendrie the latest former pro on to fill the endless gaps between actual events on SSN, still very much resembling a man whose boyband had one top-20 hit in 1997 and is now auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent to have one last crack at fame under the pretence of “showing the kids what daddy does for a living.”

18.29: Spurs confirm Emerson Royal’s arrival, with inevitable play on the words London and Royal.

18.17:

18.11: We knew this already really but KYLIAN MBAPPE’S MOVE TO REAL MADRID IS OFF. You have to feel for him: denied his dream move and now forced to play alongside dreck like Lionel Messi and Neymar.

18.04: My Sky box has started making a funny noise. That’s not a, for instance, Jim White banter. It’s whirring away like a mad thing. Going to stop taking the p*ss now. Don’t antagonise the box.

18.01: Lookman in, Praet out at Leicester. Lookman on loan from RB Leipzig, Praet to Torino also on loan. Leipzig apparently wanted a loan-with-obligation but Leicester have got their way and a loan-with option instead.

17.47: In the most engrossing developments involving Ainsley since Harriott’s Barbecue Bible, it seems that Maitland-Niles is staying at Arsenal on the proviso that Mikel Arteta will actually remember he exists.

There was a loan offer from Everton but the option to buy was deemed to low and after CLEAR THE AIR talks with the club he will stay and probably get some League Cup minutes. Cedric Soares is clearly so very much better.

17.41: Real Madrid have finally landed the French prodigy they were after all along: Eduardo Camavinga is confirmed to have joined for about £30m.

17.35: The Ilaix Moriba saga that has had everyone on tenterhooks all summer is over. Barcelona will get up to £20m for the teenager, plus 10% of his inevitable sale from RB Leipzig to Manchester United in a couple of years.

17.26: Sky reckon this deal is done now, just waiting on an official announcement.

17.08: Another update from Sky, with Dharmesh Sheth suggesting Manchester United might ask for special permission to give Ronaldo the number seven shirt despite Edinson Cavani already having it. A beautiful thing, this. One, clearly entirely unimportant and who really cares yet two, guaranteed to p*ss people right off if there’s even a hint of Manchester United and Ronaldo being treated differently to other clubs.

17.01: Saul Niguez to Chelsea is setting off my deal sheet senses. “The agents working on this are prepared to work until the very final minute,” says Kaveh on Sky, as ever imbuing ultimately insignificant football transfer ephemera with the sort of intense gravity usually reserved for coups or assassination attempts.

16.44: Another one done and dusted. Reiss Nelson is off to Feyenoord on a year-long loan. Has also extended his Arsenal contract to 2023.

16.34: Full story on Dan James finally making his move to Leeds is here.

16.26: Another Czech at West Ham can’t be a bad idea.

16.25: Nuno Mendes stuff here:

16.20: “It’s happened very quick,” says Daniel James having joined Leeds just two-and-a-half years after passing a medical.

16.16: Daniel James to Leeds is DONE.

16.12: S’all good, man.

15.52: Lovely bit of Deadline Day nostalgia here with the news that Saido Berahino is back in English football having signed for Sheffield Wednesday.

15.50: Emerson Royal to Spurs is done and done, according to Fabrizio.

15.49: Barcelona are up for sending Antoine Griezmann back to Atletico Madrid in exchange for Joao Felix. Getting Griezmann’s wage off the books has been a key plank of Barcelona’s summer strategy. Might have found a way right at the last.

15.43: Right, this is annoying. Clinton Morrison is still going strong on SSN but they’ve got him and Jamie Redknapp playing a game that is pure bullsh*t. They said it was “Higher or Lower” and it started off that way – “Cristiano Ronaldo, 20 Premier League goals this season – higher or lower?” Not a great concept, because we have to wait eight months for the reveal of the answer, but at least the format is sound. Higher or lower than 20 Premier League goals.

But then the next question was “Who will score more league goals, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?” THAT’S NOT THE FORMAT, GUYS. THAT IS NOT A HIGHER OR LOWER QUESTION. Then the next one was who will score more out of Ronaldo or Lukaku. This is a shambles. This quiz should have been called “Some Questions About Ronaldo”. Alright, it’s less pithy, but at least it’s honest. Although it does raise the prospect of some questions that nobody particularly wants to ask.

15.41: Diogo Dalot going nowhere because Manchester United can’t get themselves a Kieran Trippier.

15.37: Has anyone done a “Better Call Saul” gag yet? Oh, just literally everyone on the internet. Don’t mind me.

15.33: Deadline Day content we can all get behind.

15.28: Loads of stuff potentially going off at Everton. There is much talk of “The James Rodriguez Situation” which sounds like a high-octane thriller starring everyone’s favourite lightweight Colombian playmaker, and should definitely have “An Amazon Original” after its title.

Also calling it now: Salomon Rondon to Everton is going to be one of the three (it is always three) inevitable “deal sheet submitted” transfers that drag deadline day into the small hours.

15.13: Mauricio Pochettino giving it the full Harry Redknapp.

15.12: SSN continuing to speculate on the happiness or otherwise of Kylian Mbappe based on the tiny amount of his face they could see watching him get off a bus wearing a baseball cap and face mask. It’s great content.

15.10: Some flesh on assorted bones for you here. More words on Anguissa to Napoli and Camavinga to Real Madrid.

15.04:

15.02: Clinton is still going! He’s going to push on through until midnight. “I’m doing overtime! I love it!” He really does. Jamie Redknapp is also there, and immediately playing the hits with reference to his dad leaning out of car windows. All good fun for now. Let’s see how we’re all feeling later on. Clinton will still be buzzing, I’m sure of that.

14.54: Clinton Morrison’s epic stint on SSN is apparently coming to an end. Everyone should have someone who loves them like Clinton loves Deadline Day. He’s having an absolute blast.

14.51: Filing this one under unlikely, but hey, it’s Deadline Day and that means Anything Can Happen.

14.37: Ademola Lookman has arrived at Leicester’s training ground for his medical.

14.34: Ornstein with a Tomiyasu update. Had been linked quite heavily with Spurs earlier in the summer. Both North London clubs are basically the same thing, though, despite what the league table might currently tell you. Up to you how you take that.

14.32: Full story on Connor Roberts joining an unusually large group of Burnley summer arrivals here.

14.26: Dan James has completed his medical at Leeds, according to SSN. Look, says so right here.

That composite shirt remains an abomination. It’s as bad as people pretend half-and-half scarves are.

14.14: UPDATE: I’m being told you shouldn’t go and do something else for about eight hours. You should stay here all day, clicking all the links and all the ads. Cheers.

14.13: Afternoon. Tickner here. Doing this until midnight, so I’d recommend going off and doing something else for about eight hours and coming back about half 10 for my delirious meltdown about deal sheets.

14.06Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has joined Napoli from Fulham on loan with an option to buy for €15m. “Good body”, says Romano’s current guest…

14.00: Return to Fabrizio Romano’s twitch, to catch the end of a conversation about cunnilingus. Eduardo Camavinga, sorry, who’s gone to Real Madrid

13.58: Here are the Monchi quotes on Kounde to Chelsea.

13.52: A report claims Jorge Mendes is currently working on a deal which would see Anthony Martial join Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappe replacement? The source is ‘MadristaReal‘. Take from that what you will…

13.49: Jack Wilshere has had a training session with Serie B club Como, which is nice. Dennis Wise is the technical consultant at the club, but there is as yet no suggestion the former Arsenal man will be offered a contract.

13.37: Burnley are going bonkers this summer. They’ve already signed Maxwell Cornet for a club record fee and have now agreed a deal for Wales international Connor Roberts. He joins from Swansea for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal to become their sixth signing of the window.

13.33: Aston Villa right-back Frederic Guilbert has agreed to join Strasbourg on loan. Slight concern over options for Dean Smith in that area. Ashley Young or Ezri Konsa could cover for Matty Cash if necessary.

13.23: Wolves have ended talks with Lille over a move for Renato Sanches. They wanted a loan move, but the clubs have failed to reach an agreement.

13.19: Arsenal are among the biggest Premier League movers on deadline day. Here’s Jason Soutar with the ins and outs thus far…

13.15: “What we could see of his face was not a happy bunny at all,” says the Sky Sports reporter having seen Mbappe get off the France bus with a baseball cap and mask on…

13.08: Croatian centre-back Duje Caleta-Car is being linked with a move to Wolves, but he’s keen on a move to West Ham, which looks unlikely given their move for Kurt Zouma. Wolves would be ideal for a player who definitely spends his full moon nights howling.

12.58: Good old Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports says there is still a slim chance of Kylian Mbappe moving to Real Madrid before the deadline. There’s also a slim chance of him joining Liverpool, says Will Ford of Football365.

12.42: Chelsea are refusing to sanction the sale of Callum Hudson-Odoi. No great surprise given the lack of incomings. The Blues need to retain him as backup for Reece James at right wing-back.

12.38: Saul Niguez will only be allowed to leave Atletico for Chelsea if they can bring a permanent replacement in before the deadline. They want Pablo Sarabia from PSG.

12.28: West Ham want all the Czechs. The signings of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have both worked out brilliantly and now they’re looking to get a late deal done for defensive midfielder Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow. It looks to be a loan move with an option to buy.

12.23: Monchi says Chelsea were given a deadline of August 20 to make a bid for Kounde.

12.18: Sevilla director Monchi has said in a press conference that Chelsea made a bid for Jules Kounde last Wednesday, but they didn’t like the timing, conditions or money offered. But the French centre-back still “has chances to leave the club if Chelsea pay the release clause” of £68.5m.

12.08: We speculated that Crystal Palace may make a move for Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal, but HLTCO has the inside track and Odsonne Edouard is knee deep in a medical ahead of a transfer to Selhurst.

12.05: It was announced late last night that Willian’s Arsenal contract was terminated and he’s gone home to Corinthians. His agent Kia Joorabchian says it was a “personal disaster” and it was all Arsenal’s fault…

He said: “Unfortunately, I don’t think it has anything to do with Willian. I think something has gone wrong [at Arsenal]. Chelsea offered him a two-year contract at exactly the same salary. It worked out completely to his personal disaster.”

12.01: Here’s the full story on Cucurella to Brighton. Great hair.

11.58: Numerous Premier League clubs are monitoring Nat Phillips, but Liverpool will reportedly only accept a permanent offer. Brighton and Newcastle have been linked previously. West Ham also made contact, but are unlikely to move following the signing of Kurt Zouma

11.55: In their bid to sign all of the past-it, injury-prone Premier League footballers, Reading are reportedly in talks over a move for Andy Carroll.

11.50: Chelsea’s proposed move for Saul Niguez is ‘very difficult’, says Romano, and there’s no further news on Jules Kounde. The Blues were thought to have agreed a fee of around £50m a while ago, but that was nonsense. Sevilla have always wanted the full release clause of £68.5m.

11.46: Edinson Cavani is not joining Barcelona.

11.39: We’re definitely at risk of posting Romano here-we-go’s all day. Tomiyasu to Arsenal confirmed.

11.33: Oh, Danny boy. Drinkwater has secured a loan move to Reading, who have already taken Abdul Baba Rahman off Chelsea’s hands.

11.24: We’ve switched from Sky Sports to watching Fabrizio Romano sit on a leather sofa on his phone for the next 12 hours. “We have a ‘here we go'”, he’s just announced… It’s Marc Cucurella to Brighton for €18m from Getafe.

11.18: Another Arsenal outgoing – Reiss Nelson is undergoing a medical ahead of a loan to Feyenoord. He will sign a Gunners extension before making the move.

11.08: Despite being offered in part-exchange for most Serie A midfielders, Tanguy Ndombele looks set to stay at Spurs for the foreseeable.

11.03: The latest in ‘players you didn’t know were still at Chelsea’ features Ross Barkley, who doesn’t even have a squad number at Stamford Bridge. Our money is on a late move from Newcastle. Is this how rumours start?

11.00: Hector Bellerin is close to an Arsenal exit. He’s set for a medical in Seville ahead of a move to Real Betis.

10.57: Nikola Vlasic and Cristiano Ronaldo are the big deals done so far on deadline day. Here’s every transfer completed this summer.

10.53: Back to AMN. What is going on? He’s apparently told Mikel Arteta that he is open to playing at right-back, where Cedric Soares is currently keeping him out of the team – which is odd. Reports suggest he’s set to sit down with Arteta and Edu this afternoon and formally request an exit. Everton most likely.

10.51: ORRRNNNSTEEEIIINN. Arsenal are working on a deal for Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna. The Japan international can play at centre-back and right-back and was thought to be close to joining Spurs earlier in the window.

10.45: Houssem Aouar is trending. Lyon are now seemingly very keen to get rid of the midfielder. Arsenal and Spurs have been linked but there now doesn’t seem to be any great desire from either after a pretty poor season.

10.36: Manchester United are ‘relaxed’ about their midfield situation. That’s according to MEN, who claim it’s ‘highly unlikely the club will bolster a department where they already have six options to choose from’. Six?! Hang on… Fred, McTominay, Matic, Pogba, Van de Beek? Fernandes?

10.24: Sky Sports are reporting that Divock Origi will either make a permanent move today or stay and fight for his place in the team. He can’t have much fight left in him.

10.19: Ainsley Maitland-Niles has made it very clear that he is desperate to play football. ‘All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play,’ he posted on social media. Arsenal have blocked a potential move to Everton and it now seems he’s being punished for his public outcry. What a waste.

10.15: ICYMI: West Ham have signed Nikola Vlasic. The move suggests Jesse Lingard will not be returning to West Ham, which is a shame. Someone surely has to come in for him today. Everton?

10.13: Jordan Henderson: “To continue this journey is incredible for me and my family, and I hope the fans and the club feel the same way.” Full story on his new deal here.

10.10: Are you feeling Orny? The man says Spurs will need to bid £50m for Traore, which works out at roughly £50m per goal contribution. Wolves’ deal for Sanches 50/50.

10.05: The talk on Sky Sports news is now entirely focussed on Ronaldo’s shirt number. Might make this next coffee Irish.

10.00: Here you go… the full story. Viva Ronaldo.

09.56: Leicester have agreed a loan deal with RB Leipzig for Ademola Lookman – our predictions are looking good-ish. Where does that leave Callum Hudson-Odoi? Warming the bench we suspect…

09.46: Spurs are now very close to completing a deal for Emerson Royal. The medical is done. Either Matt Doherty or Serge Aurier are now expected to leave.

09.40: Ronaldo is on a two-year deal at United with the option of a third. Full story in the works…

09.36: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “You run out of words to describe Cristiano. He is not only a marvellous player, but also a great human being. To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person. I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us all and his experience will be so vital for the younger players in the squad. Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted he is coming home to where it all started.”

09.33Cristiano Ronaldo: “Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday.”

09.32: Sorry, Jordan, move over… Manchester United have confirmed that they have re-signed Cristiano Ronaldo. Let that sink in for a moment.

09.31: No new signings for Liverpool as yet on deadline day, but Jordan Henderson has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2025.

09.28: Dujon Sterling becomes the 34th player to leave Chelsea this summer, moving to Blackpool on loan. All the completed deals here.

09.13: A pinch of salt with your dippy egg and soldiers. Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claim Edinson Cavani could be following Dan James through the Old Trafford exit. The Uruguayan has been ‘offered to Barcelona’ and ‘would value an exit from United’ due to the arrival of Ronaldo. Hmmm…

09.07: ‘Sign a DM’ is trending and it looks as though United will have around £30m from the sale of Dan James. Yves Bissouma is right there, guys.

09.04: West Ham have got Vlasic. The 23-year-old arrives on five-year deal for an undisclosed fee from CSKA Moscow.

09.01: Daniel James is not good enough for Manchester United, who actually look as though they will turn a profit on a player. But there’s more deadwood to get rid of…

08.54: Borussia Dortmund reportedly agreed personal terms with Callum Hudson-Odoi, but Chelsea don’t want to let him leave on loan. Further reports suggest Leicester are interested in a permanent move. The Foxes have also been linked with Ademola Lookman and it’s surely a case of one or the other. Lookman likely to be a far cheaper option.

08.42: Barcelona have been offered Alexandre Lacazette for €15m, claims Tuttomercatoweb. And they’re not the only source suggesting a late move could happen. Fichajes are also at it. Sorry, Steady…

08.36: Spurs want Adama Traore and apparently he wants them. He’s waiting patiently for Fabio Paratici’s call. The offer would need to be ‘large’.

08.27: Moise Kean has returned to Juventus on a two-year loan deal worth €7m, with an obligation to buy for €28m. Graeme Souness celebrates over his Frosties.

08.20: The Twitter masses have ‘confirmed’ that Roberto Firmino is out for two to three months. To be clear, the club are yet to comment on the severity, but that’s got the Reds fans all excited that a deal for a new forward is being worked on behind the scenes. No-one in particular linked as yet, but there could be a surprise one on the cards.

08.15: West Ham are close to completing a deal for former Everton midfielder Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow for around £25m. He once said“The football played under Big Sam was awful, if it could even be called football.” Lovely stuff.

08.12: Leeds have agreed a £25m fee with Man United for Dan James and Sky Sports have created a composite shirt for the winger. It’s so wrong.

08.05: Divock Origi is trending. He’s a Liverpool player, for those of you who had forgotten. John Aldridge is pushing for his sale; he’s not the only one. He says Liverpool’s attack has gone ‘stale’, which presumably means Origi is inedible.

07.49: Juventus have announced that Ronaldo is leaving for Manchester United for £12.86m, which is payable over five years. Presumably he will still be up front for United then.

07.39: This is a fascinating deal we need to keep our eyes on: Renato Sanches might be heading to Wolves on loan. What a deal if that happens. Thank you Uncle Jorge.

07.36: Table-topping Tottenham are going to make at least one signing today…

07.32: Arsenal have managed to usher Willian out of the door – with Reiss Nelson likely to follow to Feyenoord – and now they must negotiate exits for Eddie Nketiah and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who wants to go and play football (and challenge for honours) at Everton.

07.29: Everton could yet see Moise Kean join Juventus as a ‘replacement’ for Ronaldo and Rafa Benitez has been linked with an old friend in return: Salomon Rondon. Former Toffee Ademola Lookman could end up at Leicester.

07.28: Chelsea will try again for Jules Kounde today but we don’t expect them to pay full whack; their defence looked pretty robust on Saturday without the Frenchman. There may still be another Blues outgoing, with Borussia Dortmund apparently interested in a move for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

07.25: We will presumably see confirmation of the Ronaldo to Manchester United deal today, while United are somehow going to eke £24m out of Leeds United for Dan James. At last, United may have finally got the hang of selling fringe players for decent money. Now they just need to let Jesse Lingard leave again.

07.23: What you might have missed last night: Willian agreeing to terminate his contract with Arsenal. What you will miss today: Nothing if you go nowhere. All the summer deals are here; deadline-day moves will be in bold.

07.20: Good morning and welcome to the Football365 live transfer blog. So what are we expecting to happen today? Here are ten Premier League transfers that could still go through today.
