Gossip: Big Arsenal blow over key target; Gunners man ‘overwhelmed’
Arsenal have held lengthy discussions over a new playmaker, while one defender is ‘overwhelmed’ by offers to leave the Emirates…
ARSENAL TOIL OVER ERIKSEN
Arsenal continue to toil over a possible deal to bring Inter Milan playmaker Christian Eriksen to the Emirates Stadium, according to reports.
The 28-year-old, who was expected to make a big impact under Antonio Conte, left Tottenham in January for a £16.9m fee after running down his contract to six months. He has failed to impress at the San Siro and it now looks like he will leave in January. Both Spurs and Arsenal have previously been linked with his signature.
Arsenal are understood to be in the running to sign Eriksen. A previous report has claimed that club officials see him as a cheaper alternative to Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, who could cost around £70m. And now Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) claims that Arsenal have held ‘discussions for several days’ with Inter as they look to thrash out a deal for Eriksen.
However, the potential arrival of Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain reportedly spells danger for the Gunners’ hopes of landing Eriksen. Reports have suggested that the former Tottenham boss will replace Thomas Tuchel at Parc des Princes. And Calciomercato adds that Pochettino’s appointment at PSG would ‘dramatically change plans’ for Arsenal in their attempts to sign Eriksen.
There’s a possibility his appointment at PSG could see Leandro Paredes move to Inter as part of a loan deal but it’s still important to consider ‘how far Inter and Arsenal were ahead’ in negotiating a move back to England.
TOO MANY OPTIONS
William Saliba reportedly has a lot of offers to leave Arsenal on loan in the January transfer window after Mikel Arteta admitted that there’s a possibility he could leave.
Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 and was expected to play a key role this season having spent the last back on loan at his former club. But he is yet to feature under Arteta and has been excluded from Arsenal’s Europa League squad, with reports in November claiming he is ‘fed up’ with the situation.
Saint-Etienne are believed to be one of the clubs interested in his arrival on loan, with L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) claiming that the French club are ‘trying’ to bring him back. Saliba is understood to be ‘overwhelmed with proposals’ with offers coming from England too. Whatever proposals Saliba accumulates, his ‘interest is more to stay in the Premier League’.
