GUNNERS TARGET TIAGO TOMAS
Arsenal are said to be close to completing their first bit of summer business with the signing of Tiago Tomas.
That’s the claim in The Sun, which reports that the Gunners have been talking to Sporting Lisbon over a cut-price deal for football’s oldest-looking teenager.
Tomas is an 18-year-old forward who can play centrally or from the right. He has scored five goals and laid on three more this season and his performances have been enough to convince Arsenal to move quickly.
Apparently, Edu has been in contact with his Sporting Lisbon counterpart Hugo Viana – is anyone feeling very old all of a sudden? – to discuss a deal for Tomas, who signed a new contract with Sporting only last summer which included a release clause of £52million.
But Covid means Sporting may be willing to accept less than half that amount, and anything in the region of £20million is said to be enough.
CITY TO NET £16M FOR ANGELINO
RB Leipzig appear set to make an even earlier start than Arsenal to their summer recruitment…
After beating Augsburg on Friday night, the closest club to Bayern in the Bundesliga table are set to confirm the signing of Angelino on a permanent deal from Manchester City.
Angelino moved to Leipzig on a season-long loan last summer, with the Germans agreeing to an appearance-based obligation-to-buy clause.
The wing-back had to feature in 12 Bundesliga matches throughout the current season, with five coming in the second half of the campaign.
Angelino’s appearance against Augsburg means Leipzig are now obligated to pay City £16million.
He’s come a long way since being described as ‘absolutely awful’ before the start of last season.
ARSENAL TEEN WANTED BY LEVERKUSEN
Angelino could find himself up against an Arsenal youngster next season…
Folarin Balogun is into the final months of his contract at the Emirates and clubs across Europe are keeping an eye on the 19-year-old.
The Evening Standard reckons Arsenal haven’t given up hope of persuading the forward to recommit but, understandably, Balogun is taking his sweet time to weigh up all of his options.
One of his suitors, according to The Mirror, is Bayer Leverkusen. The Germans are said to have joined Stuttgart and Rennes in the race for Balogun, who is yet to make a start for the Gunners this season.
