Barca can’t match the salaries on offer elsewhere but they hope to appeal to Pogba’s ego if he leaves Man Utd…

Barcelona’s financial turmoil isn’t keeping them out of the race to sign Paul Pogba, apparently.

Pogba is in the final year of his Manchester United contract and, at this stage, it seems anything could happen. Reports in recent days suggest he could be leaning towards signing new terms at Old Trafford. The only thing we know for sure is that the sage is going to drag on.

According to Fichajes, Barca have thrown their hat in the ring. The story goes that Joan Laporta and Mino Raiola discussed Pogba in recent days, with the Barca president expressing his desire to sign the midfielder on a free.

Compared to United, PSG and Real Madrid, Barca can’t match every offer on the table. But whereas Pogba would be one of a number of stars at each of those clubs, he could be the leading light at the Nou Camp.

Barca are also keeping tabs on Arsenal starlet Charlie Patino…

The Mirror reckons Mikel Arteta is set to promote the 17-year-old to his first-team squad to fend off interested parties in the midfielder.

Patino is said to be a boyhood Barca fan – he was born in Watford but has Spanish roots – and the Gunners are concerned he could be tempted away.

In case you missed it, Patino did this last week against Manchester United…

Arsenal may also be set to lose Alexandre Lacazette…

The French striker is in the final year of his contract with little sign of a renewal.

Calciomercato reckons Juventus are ready to swoop for Lacazette. The Old Lady would prefer to wait until next summer when he becomes a free agent but given their poor start to the season – they’re currently 16th in Serie A – they could make a move in January.

Manchester United had a stellar summer window, even if the failure to land a midfielder still leaves them short.

But they were decisive in strengthening the centre of their defence with the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

However, it is being claimed that United initially preferred to sign Kalidou Koulibaly. Corriere Dello Sport says the Red Devils approached Napoli with an offer worth £30million for the Senegal star, but the Italian club were demanding a far higher fee. When it became clear there was little room for negotiation, United moved on to Varane, who joined the Red Devils for £40million.
