Darwin Nunez has been talking to Tottenham – but Spurs are yet to decide if they want him. Man Utd and Liverpool’s interest is rather more firm…
NUNEZ IN SPURS TALKS
Darwin Nunez is expected to be one of the hottest properties in the summer transfer window. The queue to sign the Benfica striker appears to be growing.
Nunez was in brilliant form last season, scoring 34 goals in 41 games in all competitions. That record has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs including most of the Premier League’s big six.
According to Football Transfers, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are all in the mix, along with Newcastle. Indeed, it is claimed Spurs have met with Nunez’s representatives but it is unclear yet whether they will follow up their interest with a firm bid.
Real Madrid and Atletico are also said to be sniffing around the 22-year-old but the Uruguay striker is understood to be more likely to move to England.
REAL FAFFING OVER TCHOUAMENI FEE
Real are certainly keen to land a striker this summer after Kylian Mbappe hurled a custard pie in their direction all the way from Paris. The Champions League winners also want a midfielder, with Aurelien Tchouameni the primary object of their desire.
Foot Mercato in France says Real have submitted an offer to Monaco worth around £68million, but the Spaniards still face tough competition from Liverpool and PSG.
According to Marca, Real have got as far as offering the 22-year-old a five-year contract, but this report suggests Florentino Perez is still haggling for a discount on Monaco’s asking price.
MAN UTD CONSIDER DANJUMA CLAUSE
Manchester United have also been linked with Tchouameni, with their need for midfield reinforcements abundantly clear. But the Red Devils appear to be focusing on other positions at present.
The Guardian says United are engaged in talks over Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber, while Erik ten Hag is also pondering a move for winger Arnaut Janjuma.
The Manchester Evening News says United’s interest in the Villarreal star goes back at least a year and the Red Devils are considering whether to activate a £38million release clause in the Holland international’s contract.
CITY PRIORITISING LEEDS MIDFIELDER
Across Manchester, City are cracking on with their recruitment having already addressed their biggest need of the summer.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarek has said: I can confirm that there will be more players coming in. We are looking to strengthen the team in the areas we need strengthening.” Which we reckon to be central midfield and left-back.
The Telegraph agrees as they are reporting that Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips is City’s primary midfield target, while Marc Cucurella is ‘one of the left-backs City are looking at’. Last week it was reported that anyone looking to get Cucurella out of Brighton would have to cough up £45million.
