Jurgen Klopp has been picking up the phone again…and this time he has called Kalilou Koulibaly.

Not our words but the words of Le 10 Sport (when put through a translating machine). There has been a lot of talk of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ‘calling’ various transfer targets this summer – Kylian Mbappe, Timo Werner and most recently Adama Traore – and now they say that Kalidou Koulibaly has been the subject of the German’s attention as he bids to pull him away from Manchester United.

‘The Liverpool mentor was thus able to evoke the possible association Van Dijk – Koulibaly, which makes dream of England and the football planet. A seductive operation that could well bear fruit.’

The price? It is thought that the current climate has lowered the asking price from around £90m to something closer to £65m, which might just make him a bargain for Liverpool.

He chose Monaco over Manchester United because he wanted first-team football but Pietro Pellegri has basically had a nightmare since he switched from Genoa in a deal said to be worth £21m when he was just 16. A series of injuries has restricted him to a grand total of six Ligue Un substitute appearances since January 2018.

But now Italian gossip maestro Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reignite the club’s interest in Pellegri, who had been a target for Jose Mourinho. It seems absolutely mad enough to be true.

Meanwhile, according to the Daily Star, ‘Odion Ighalo is willing to risk a new £75m contract with Shanghai Shenhua to remain with Manchester United for the rest of the season.’
