Liverpool have been watching Kai Havertz for ages and Jurgen Klopp ‘realises’ the time is now or never.
It was inevitable that the Bundesliga’s return would lead to its players being linked elsewhere. At a time when no other football is happening, a decent game will garner more interest than usual. A great one might just add another few million to their value. An excellent performance can only instigate a £100m BATTLE.
Quite what aspect of The Sun‘s story makes it an exclusive is unknown. It was common knowledge that each of those clubs wanted him, and that Bayer Leverkusen would have wanted about £100m before the global pandemic.
They do say a move to the Premier League ‘is just as possible’ as Havertz joining Bayern, while Leverkusen know the 20-year-old’s value will only deteriorate if they do not sell this summer. On a similar note, Jurgen Klopp has been monitoring the midfielder for 18 months and ‘realises’ that if he does not sign him now, ‘he is likely to lose out on him’ altogether.
Chelsea are said to desire Havertz’s creativity, but United ‘could be in the best position’ if it is a case of just ‘straight spending money’. They will only act, however, if Paul Pogba leaves.
The gossip column is not saying that the usual websites are finding it difficult to manufacture spurious speculation, but that is precisely what the gossip column is saying.
Over at Le10Sport, four ‘very prestigious clubs’ are said to have put Adama Traore’s ‘name on the shelves’ for a summer deal. And you’ll never guess the identity of that quartet…
It seems that Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich want to sign everyone, while Chelsea will take a pass on the winger and tag in Manchester City this time. Wolves valued him at around £75m in January and, with three years still on his current deal, that might only scratch the surface when it comes down to it.
VERT TO GO
Jan Vertonghen has a similar number of players who want to sign him, albeit not for quite the same amount of money. His expiring Tottenham contract has attracted the interest of Roma, Inter Milan, Valencia and Real Betis.
This is according to the Daily Star, who add that the centre-half would be ‘open’ to staying in north London. But he is aware of the sort of money he could command as a free agent and even ‘believes interest in him could peak’ in a market dominated by such cost-efficient deals.
AND THE REST
Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland, 19, turned down a move to Juventus in January because the Italian champions planned to put the Norway international into their under-23 squad… Arsenal are hoping to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s France Under-21 winger Moussa Diaby… Chelsea are leading the race to sign Dutch centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba from Spanish giants Barcelona… Manchester United midfielder James Garner, 19, will be allowed to leave on loan next season, with Championship sides Cardiff City, Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday interested.
