Kai Havertz could go for just £70m. Barcelona want more for Philippe Coutinho, who’s chosen his ‘preference’ in terms of club.
KAI TO SUCCESS
The transfer gossip column has, quite frankly, lost track of how much Kai Havertz will be theoretically valued at this summer. It has been quoted to be as high as €130m then anywhere from £109m to £90m but the real price, it seems, is considerably lower.
The Sun suggest it would take £70m to prise him from Bayer Leverkusen in a stunted transfer window. The German club were ‘demanding around £100m’ for their prized asset before the global pandemic shattered everyone’s finances, and now ‘could’ make him available for a fair bit less.
The exclusive in this story was known as far back as February: that Manchester City are interested along with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. Pep Guardiola is ‘a huge admirer of his talents’ and ‘has sent scouts’ to watch him.
The loss of David Silva, albeit ‘a different type of midfielder’, means the reigning Premier League champions have a creativity gap to fill. If Havertz is the man they want, they face a battle to get him.
PHIL YOU IN
Perhaps Philippe Coutinho would be worth a look? Mundo Deportivo believe three clubs ‘have contacted his agent’ in Chelsea, Leicester and United, while ‘unofficially it is also known’ that Newcastle want him.
Barcelona desire to ‘sell as soon as possible’ and have set a deadline of June 30 to do so by. From their view, ‘there will be no more bartering as ‘his contribution to the club is only contemplated from the economic income’.
That is a bloody lovely way of saying ‘f*** off’.
Chelsea are actually mentioned as Coutinho’s ‘preference’ but ‘whoever comes closest’ to the £80.6m-£71.7m ballpark Barca have set will win the ‘auction’.
Chelsea will be interested to hear that ‘Barcelona’s goalkeeping future lies in La Masia’. Marca say that contrary to the belief the club would target Andre Onana, that signing ‘would pose a problem’.
As ‘La Masia is brimming with talent’, the belief is that the club could choose one of ‘a plethora of options’ from their youth system to provide back-up to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, instead of outsourcing Neto’s replacement.
The promotion of Inaki Pena, Arnau Tenas or Lazar Carevic ‘would require the club to leave Onana in Amsterdam’. Or give Chelsea a clearer track to signing him.
AND THE REST
Chelsea also want Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba, 18, from Barcelona… PSG have bid an initial £44.7m with £8.9m in add-ons for Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.
