Gossip: Kroos to United, Ben Arfa to Liverpool

Yes, we are back there again. Less than two years after Toni Kroos almost signed for the Reds (David Moyes said recently that “it is no secret that I had put a lot of groundwork into signing [Kroos] for Manchester United”), the German midfielder is apparently back on their agenda. It’s no real surprise as Kroos has recently been said by various Spanish media outlets to have referred to an Old Trafford move as a “dream”.

The Daily Star – for it is their ‘exclusive’ – claim that £40m would be the price for Kroos. They quote a source as saying: “United want him and he’s one of their main targets when the transfer window opens. Real are reluctant to do business with United, but with Kroos the situation is different because he hasn’t settled and could be surplus to requirements.”

The same report also linked United with Chelsea target Miralem Pjanic, who has a £37m buy-out clause in his Roma contract.

We are rather amused by the Daily Mirror referring to Manchester City as ‘the moneybags Premier League club’ but apart from that, this is pretty predictable fare, with Real Madrid and Barcelona both said to be interested in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who is expected to leave this summer.

The report ends: ‘With incoming manager Pep Guardiola identifying him as a high priority when he arrives in the summer, and with Gundogan himself interested in working with the current Bayern Munich boss, City are still confident of landing the player — even if they have to pay over the odds.’

Which is fine because they are a moneybags Premier League club.

Only four players have scored more goals than Hatem Ben Arfa in Ligue Un this season, which is remarkable considering he was on loan at Hull from Newcastle less than two years ago. Ben Arfa has found his shizzle again at Nice and has scored 11 league goals this season – form which has earned him a recall to the French national side. Now French gossip-mongers Le 10 Sport claim that he is a wanted man, with Liverpool, Inter, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund all said to be interested in the winger.

As Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he needs more wide men, it makes some degree of sense that he would be interested in Ben Arfa, who is still remarkably only 28.
