Gossip: Mbappe may yet join Liverpool, Newcastle’s Pogba plan

Kylian Mbappe celebrates scoring for PSG.

There could yet be a twist over Kylian Mbappe that takes him to Liverpool, while Newcastle have received encouragement over Paul Pogba…

It was thought that Liverpool’s slim chances of signing Kylian Mbappe had evaporated. But perhaps not…

The France star is out of contract with PSG at the end of the season and no renewal has so far been forthcoming.

The expectation was that Mbappe had a deal ready to go with Real Madrid. And that may yet prove to be the case. But Sport suggests there is still the possibility of a late twist.

Apparently, the forward is still attracted by the possibility of joining Liverpool. Given the salary he was expected to receive at Real, it would certainly be a stretch for the Reds to match what the Spaniards have put on the table, and there is also still a chance that he may re-sign with PSG.

The whispers surrounding Manchester United this morning centre on the players they expect to get shot of this summer.

Despite not yet ruling out staying at Old Trafford, it seems almost certain that Paul Pogba will be one of them. The midfielder is said to be ready to wait until the end of the season before he chooses where to play next term and beyond, with Mino Raiola expected to be fielding offers from Real, Barca, PSG and Juventus.

Three of those clubs could have problems meeting Raiola’s demands, so it seems the Pogba camp is trying to drum up interest elsewhere in the Premier League. The Telegraph claims the France star is open to offers from other English clubs, and while it is hard to imagine too many being tempted given the cost, Fichajes scribe Ekrem Konur reckons Newcastle are willing to make Pogba an offer that might take him to Tyneside.

Konor also has a line on two other United players approaching free agency. Like Pogba, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani are also in the final months of their contracts at Old Trafford, and both are attracting offers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Don’t do it, lovely Juan.

If Pogba goes to Newcastle, he might find himself playing alongside Eberechi Eze.

The Magpies tried to take the Palace star and future England international on loan in January but the Eagles refused to accept a £5million offer with the prospect of another £35million to make it a permanent arrangement in the summer.

The Mirror says Newcastle fancy their chances of landing Eze at the end of the season by throwing in an extra few quid to make it a £45million bid. If Palace play ball, they would more than double their money on an attacker they signed from QPR in 2020 for £17million.
